1. Start Your Diet Right Now
Lots of us intend to start doing something to lose a few extra pounds "soon." But we find ourselves putting it off longer and longer.
How many times have you promised you will start a new diet or exercise program on Monday? But, then, Monday passes you buy and, before you know it, it's Tuesday. So you promise you will start the next Monday.
Don't promise you will start your weight loss program on Monday, or tomorrow, or as soon as you get to the bookstore and buy that book you just heard about on television. Instead, start right now. There are things you can do immediately to get yourself on the right track and you don't need to be perfect. You just need to actually get started.
2. Make some new food choices today
What Are You Eating? Making a few small changes to the way you eat can make a huge difference.
At dinner tonight, instead of taking two pieces of fried chicken, eat just one. Use a smaller plate, and only allow yourself to eat what you can comfortably fit on that plate. And, most importantly, don't go back for seconds.
Want a snack? Instead of getting a piece of chocolate cake, or the oatmeal cookies you just bought, reach for an apple or a banana.
Feeling hungry because you didn't eat as much as you usually do? Drink extra water. It will not only make you feel more full, it will also help begin to flush the toxins out your system.
3. Make some Trade-Offs
Many people avoid dieting because they are convinced dieting equals feeling hungry all of the time.
However, when you switch from eating high-calorie, high-fat foods to healthier, low-fat foods (like fruits, vegetables, beans, lean meats, and whole grains) you can eat enough to feel full. But you will still lose weight because you will be consuming fewer calories.
4. Eat Several Small Meals
Instead of eating three big meals a day, eat several small meals a day.
This will do three things. First, it will keep you feeling full, so you won't feel tempted to "pig out." And, secondly, it will rev up your metabolism. When you eat more often, your body will actually burn fat faster. And, third, it will give you more energy to get through the day.
So, every two or three hours, eat something, preferably something healthy.
