Meandering Politics

Stan Grimes
One need only look in one´s mirror to find the beginning of a journey, a journey through this mixed bag of marbles called life. To survive this process we refer to as living, one´s bag of marbles must have the skills necessary to use the biggies to knock out the smallies. If the player just happens to have a few steelies, he holds the keys to power. Yep, those big round bearings are mighty powerful. Heck, with a steely you can knock at least two biggies out of the circle, along with a smally or two.

Wouldn´t it be nice if we could play life like a game of good ol´ downtown game of marbles? The person with the right marbles in his bag and the right skills wins. He wouldn´t have to think of ways to cheat. It´s all right there, a circle, two players, and raw skill. That´s all it takes. Too bad I say.

Unfortunately, we make life much more complicated. Some people carry dirty tricks in their bags, some make up different rules for the game, and others refuse to play. Of course, we have a bunch of players wanting to play only with those that mirror themselves. You know the ones, "I only play with the rich boys, the black boys, or the Christian boys. Shucks when I was a kid we didn´t care who played, black, white, or green.

We never let the girls play back in those days, too bad really. I think some of those girls could have whooped our butts if allowed (I think that´s what we were afraid of). No one wanted to get beat by a girl. We had more fun putting live frogs down their dresses and watching them scream. Those were the good ol´ days, I think.

I´m sorry I wandered off topic, or did I? Back to looking into that mirror, what you see staring back at you is what you got. It´s what you´ve been given at birth. Are you a cat-eye, a mottled biggy, a steely, or a clay marble? Doesn´t really matter what you think of what you see, it´s what you got, so live with it. Go with it.

Draw your circle in the dirt, play by the rules, use your raw skills, and I promise you you´ll sleep better at night. Who knows, you could just become the President of the United States of America.
