IT'S NOT TOO LATE!

Everyone who knows me recognizes that I am, and have always been, totally opposed to the Bush administration's plans to take out Saddam Hussein under the guise of fighting terrorism. It is so evident, given the PNAC records and the Downing Street memos that the response to 9/11 was simply an excuse to turn a war against stateless terrorism into military attacks on Muslim states. The plans for that war on Iraq had been completed years before. Still there seems to be little opposition to these tactics. There is no Democratic unanimity against these disastrous plans and we keep losing more and more of our troops in an endless conflragation that seemingly will go on with no end in sight.
It seems also that we have reached a point where the Bush administration is determined to completely bypass the people. In their lust for power, the Bush administration and the Republican party are aligning themselves firmly against the American people. They are using blackmail obtained through illegal spying on American citizens to silence the media and the opposition party.
If you object to my use of the word blackmail, just ask yourself why President Bush refuses to obey the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. The purpose of the FISA court is to ensure that administrations do not spy for partisan political reasons. The warrant requirement is to ensure that a panel of independent federal judges hear a legitimate reason for the spying, in so doing protecting a president from the temptation to abuse the powers of the government. There can be only one reason why the Bush administration evaded the court and that is that they didn't have any legitimate reasons for spying, period.
Open your eyes America before it is too late. The United States is undergoing a coup against the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, civil liberties, and democracy itself. The so called liberal press has been co-opted. Why did the New York Times allow Judith Miller to make war propaganda for the Bush administration, and then suppress for an entire year the news that the Bush administration was illegally spying on American citizens? Why was Al Gore's speech that challenged the criminal deeds of the Bush administration relegated to C-SPAN instead of the major media carrying it live? The TV networks simply ape Fox News false patriotism.
The Patriot Act and Homeland Security are not our protectors. All they do is undermine our protection by destroying the Constitution and the civil liberties that it guarantees. Fear and hysteria have long been used to gain power and to silence all opposition. Just keep in mind that unchecked, unaccountable power grows more insolent every day. It appears that Congress and the media have no fight left in them, and neither, apparently, do the American people. How else can you explain the direction our beloved country is heading?
It's time to wake up America and realize that many interests are using the "war on terror" to achieve their agendas. The Federalist Society is using the "war on terror" to achieve its agenda of concentrating power in the executive and packing the Supreme Court at will. The neocons are using the war to achieve their agenda of Israeli hegemony in the Middle East. Police agencies are using the war to remove constraints on their powers and to make themselves less accountable. Republicans are using the war to achieve one-party rule--theirs. The Bush administration is using the war to avoid accountability and evade constraints on executive powers. Arms industries, or what President Eisenhower called the "military-industrial complex," are using the war to fatten profits. One could go on and on!
