Can America Get Over the Race Issue?

Alan E. Moses
It wasn´t long ago that Obama was headed for an obvious win then the Canadian memo hit right before Ohio and Texas which caused the Texas split and Ohio defeat. He won two more in Mississippi and Wyoming. This rebound was short lived as easily obtainable DVD´s of Pastor Wright´s sermons hit the national news. Republicans and many of the white independents were offended. Yet the African American community saw nothing wrong.

The claims were how dare he blame America for 9-11? We have not interfered in other countries politics or tried to manipulate the world view. Must I really make a list of our documented interference in the politics of other nations? Are we really to judge others and decide the type of governments they should have? Are we perfect?

Was Pastor Wright not speaking the truth about how white women and those of color were not allowed to participate in the freedoms guaranteed by the founding fathers? Our system is not perfect and yet we refuse to make changes as we have been comfortable with the way things have been. Free healthcare is considered the socialists way and not American. Yet we need to change this.

Refusing to talk to so called enemies is considered un-American yet has proven to be the way to influence our enemies of the past. Reagan-Gorbachov is a perfect example. Free trade is all and well yet not when we lose jobs that continues to destroy the American dream.

We can´t afford to continue the war in Iraq as it would have saved trillions to have spoken with Saddam and found that he was just bluffing Iran. Iran is the true threat to Middle East peace. As McCain seems to be confused Al-Qeada is radical Sunni and Iran is Radical Shiite Muslim. They do not support each other.

It is time for we Americans to forget about race and gender as the world is changing faster than our politics can keep up. African American churches have spoken what Pastor Wright has every Sunday for decades. It´s only because most of America has not considered these plights that our African American community deals with. It is because we lack the understanding. It is true that we build prisons and have a higher percentage of our citizens sitting behind bars than any nation on earth. African Americans are by far the most imprisoned.

Do we ever think of how we don´t allow those that serve time for felonies are to regain their freedoms? They can´t vote, Jobs are almost impossible to get and so we disregard the idea of serving time pays back the community. One mistake can be the end of your American dream. You are marked forever and will have to resort to crime to support your self. This is the classic catch 22.

I challenge anyone to attend those inner city churches of the poor. Listen to how those people respond. Unless you understand you can never be as one. Pastor Wright defended White females along with those of color. Sometimes the truth is hard to swallow. Yet until we do we will never change or see that America is heading in the wrong direction. We should be asking why Pastor Wright and the millions of others feel this way and not demand that he just stop telling what is in reality the truth.

America better start to really think about just where we are headed and decide if true change is needed or if we should continue to fool ourselves. The Race issue includes Latinos as well and we must deal with it without anger. Our future depends on it.
