Oklahoma Needs Two New U.S. Senators: Oklahoma Indians for Andrew Rice

Mike Graham
Native Americans in Oklahoma are fed up with the non-support of their two republican U.S. senators James Inholf and Tom Coburn. Senator James Inholf is running for re-election this year and Indian groups around the state are organizing a "vote Inholf out campaign" against him.

Indian groups are putting their support behind democrat Andrew Rice who was born and raised in Oklahoma City. Serving as an Oklahoma State Senator, Andrew Rice has established himself as a consensus-builder and a strong advocate for children and families.

Oklahomans need a U.S. Senator that will stand up for all Oklahomans on the U.S. Senate floor on issues; not one that will be a party lap dog obstructionist. Senator Inholf has failed over and over to stand up for Oklahoma Indian issues. Inholf has even gone out of his way with the support of Senator Coburn to block land and water EPA issues covering the Cherokee Nation at state level.

Senator Inholf is missing in action on issues covering health, education and poverty issues in our state's Indian community. His non-support on bills covering funding of Indian programs from the federal government hurts all Oklahomans. Those federal funds are spent in our state and help our state economy grow.

It's time for new Oklahoma leadership in the U.S. Senate. It's time to elect a senator that will unite all Oklahomans and fight for our fair share of federal tax dollars and bring them back home; not send them to other countries as a hand out. Oklahomans need a senator that will look out for us first and that person is Andrew Rice.

As a state senator, Andrew Rice co-sponsored and helped pass legislation called the "All Kids Act" to add 38,000 Oklahoma children to those eligible for government-sponsored health insurance. Andrew Rice also led a successful effort to make it easier for local governments to donate abandoned properties for use by Habitat for Humanities to construct affordable housing, especially in rural Oklahoma.

Andrew Rice's list of support and hard work for Oklahoma citizens is long, and he deserves our support in his campaign bid for U.S. Senator of Oklahoma.

Oklahoma voters have a chance to send a strong message to Senator James Inholf and the federal government by voting for Andrew Rice this November 2008. Electing Andrew Rice is a win-win for all Oklahomans. Change is just a word if it's not backed up. Andrew Rice is stepping up to the plate to do just that; we should back him up.
