Elhashemy's Broad Spectrum Luqaimat Diet Plan ......7. The Luqaimat Cues Factor

Prof. Dr. Mohamed Elhashemy
Elhashemy's Broad Spectrum Luqaimat Diet Plan is a comprehensive strategy that employs specific food types of micro-sized meals (Luqaimat in Arabic language) to induce different biological and psychological responses, with the purpose of obtaining ideal body weight and maintaining it for life.

The first element of Elhashemy's broad spectrum Luqaimat diet is raising the bacteroidetes to firmicutis ratio in the colon. The second element is modifying the psychological behavior of the obese person so to adopt healthy nutrition norm.

I will discuss in this article one of the factors related to the second element.

In a brilliant study done by Professor Brian Wansink of Cornell University and his colleagues analyzing a questionnaire from 133 French and 145 Americans about when they decide to stop eating during a meal time, it was found that obese people – whether French or Americans - generally over-rely on external cues that tell them when to stop eating such as:

1. When their food plates become clean.

2. When the TV show they are watching is over.

3. When they have run out of their beverage.

The study stated that French people are usually of lower BMI than Americans because they depend more on internal cues - such as no longer feeling hungry - to stop eating. Americans, on the other hand, tend to use external cues, that is why they are generally of higher BMI levels.

Over-relying on external cues to decide when to stop eating may explain the prevalence of high obesity levels in certain cultures. The study of Prof. Wansink concluded that relying on internal cues for meal cessation, rather than on external cues, may improve eating patterns in the long term.

Within my scientific diet plan "Elhashemy's Broad Spectrum Luqaimat Diet Plan", I innovated a classification dividing people's eating pattern into four grades:

Grade I: The Aggressive Eaters.

Typically they are extremely obese (BMI 35+).

They eat all food in front of them even if their stomachs are full. They continue eating, bringing extra food from the kitchen, or ask for further servings in restaurants.

Grade II: The External-Cues Controlled Eaters.

Typically they are overweight (BMI 28-35+).

Their eating pattern is controlled only by external cues such as when their food plates become clean, when the TV show they are watching is over, or when they have run out of their beverage.

Grade III: The Internal-Cues Controlled Eaters.

Typically they are of the high-normal weight (BMI 26-29).

Their eating pattern is controlled by internal cues such as: they stop eating when they are no longer feeling hungry, or when food taste becomes less stimulating compared to the start of the meal.

Grade IV: The Luqaimat Eaters.

Typically, they are of the normal weight (BMI 22-26).

They eat during the day frequent Luqaimat-sized meals so that it become a habit even after they completely lose their extra weight, that is why they remain slim for long. Moreover, they are not concerned with caloric counting or restricted food selections.

A great percentage of my obese patients after training to become Luqaimat eaters, drop progressively their entire extra weight with no tendency to recurrence. It is worth mentioning that raising the bacteroidetes gut flora to firmicutis gut flora ratio using specific food types in the form of Luqaimat boosts the weight loss results.

I will write complete details about these four grades of eating patterns based on different cues in my upcoming scientific diet book by the end of 2008.
