God´s ways are not our ways

Rod Smith
This is something that Jesus taught and proved - by what He did - in the New Testament. Yet many find it difficult to understand. We are conditioned by this world´s thinking, not God´s thinking.

The difference? Folks want to grab what they can, but Jesus said give what you can. We want to take revenge on our enemies, but Jesus said love your enemies.

We want to be one up on our neighbours with more money, bigger car, more gadgets, yet Jesus said love your neighbour as yourself. We cannot do that if we are jealous of them.

A blind man today will seek out every medical specialist he can find to try and regain sight, but Jesus made a mud pack and told a blind man to apply it to his eyes. Not exactly medical science, but of course the man regained sight. Jesus´ healing still works in places where the people´s faith is in Him and not limited human knowledge.

Even more offbeat, Jesus told a crippled man to go and wash in the Pool of Siloam. The man must have been puzzled, but he did it. Guess what? The man was healed. In the Old Testament we read of Noah building an ark because God instructed him. The people laughed, but Noah laughed last because they all drowned in the great flood, while Noah and his family were saved. He trusted God.

The Almighty can do anything if we will believe. He even spoke through a donkey! We think we are so great with our 21st century technology, but how puny we are compared to God´s mighty power.

How crazy it must have sounded in human terms when God told Joshua to march the people around Jericho once a day for six days in order to capture it. On the seventh day of marching they were to march around Jericho seven times, then sound a trumpet. God said at that the walls would fall. Sure enough they did, and the city was taken.

Regarding prayer, Jesus says whatsoever things you desire when you pray, believe that you receive them and you shall have them. The sequence is so simple - but many Christians still don´t get it. They want to see the prayer answered first, then believe. Our way is not God´s way.

We flounder in the bog of the human five senses, but when we venture into the realm of the supernatural, God has no limits. The things that are impossible with men are possible with God. He says: "I will show you great and mighty things that you do not know."

The scoffer on the street says "Show me God and I´ll believe" but God says believe and then I´ll show you. Think about it: if we could see God there´d be no need for faith. The Bible tells us to walk by faith not by sight. God's way is not our way.

When we disbelieve we cheat ourselves out of what God wants to give. Also, at life´s end we will not get the place in Heaven that Jesus promises– because we refuse to believe.

Dear reader, you can start believing today if you so choose. Repent, and trust Jesus. He says no-one comes to the Father [God] except through Him.
