NordicTrack AudioStrider 990 Elliptical Trainer Review
It is equipped with several impressive features, including an adjustable power incline. Only a few elliptical trainers have the ability to adjust the level of the elliptical stride. Most cost in excess of $3,000. However, the AudioStrider offers that very same feature while selling for around $1,000.
Why would you want an adjustable incline on your elliptical trainer? Like a treadmill, when you adjust the incline you can focus your workout on different parts of your body. For example, when set at a steep level you can concentrate building and shaping the backs of your legs.
In addition, you will find that increasing the incline will increase your level of exertion. You´ll burn more calories in less time.
Other features worth noting on the NordicTrack AudioStrider 990 include…
Sound System – The 990 has built-in speakers in the console. You can plug in your MP3 player and rock out as you burn off excess weight.
iFit Technology – iFit is a series of workout cards that automatically adjusts your resistance and incline, while the voice of a personal trainer takes you through each workout. The workouts are designed by pros, and focus on different fitness goals like weight loss and wellness. (iFit cards are an additional cost.)
Generous Selection of Workout Programs – In addition to iFit workouts, the AudioStrider 990 is equipped with 20 personal trainer workouts, 2 heart rate workouts and 2 learned programs. Although they do not include audio coaching, you still get a wide selection of motivating exercises.
What you need to know about the AudioStrider 990 before you buy…
The NordicTrack 990 comes with an 18" stride. This is about average, and therefore it will accommodate an average height user. Short people may find the stride too long and the distance between the pedals too wide. Taller individuals may find the stride too confining and should consider a 20" stride.
If you are considering buying this elliptical machine, you should be aware it falls within the budget category, although at the high-end of that category. What this means is you are getting an elliptical built with budget components.
The 990 should only be considered for moderate use. If you are into strenuous workouts or there will be multiple users, you probably want to upgrade.
The AudioStrider comes with a 1-year parts and labor warranty. Being at the high-end of a budget elliptical, I would still recommend you increase the warranty to at least 2-years coverage. The cost is not all that much more.
For those looking for a cardio workout machine that won´t cost you a second mortgage, the NordicTrack AudioStrider 990 is worth considering. Furthermore, the adjustable power incline will give your elliptical workout a whole new dimension.
