The Silent Invasion

Barbara Anderson
They don’t carry guns. Their weapons are their sheer numbers. They cross silently and furtively, trying to evade the border patrol. At least a million a year do so. They are mostly Mexicans coming across our southern border. What they want is what every invader army wants: wealth, land and power.

Although over a million cross successfully, many more try and are turned back. That doesn’t stop them; they keep making the try. It is estimated that from eight to twenty million illegal aliens are in this country. Nobody knows for sure. Nobody keeps track of them. In “sanctuary” cities such as Denver, Colorado, police are not allowed to ask the citizenship status of those they apprehend for other crimes. More than 300,000 are considered “alien absconders” in the United States. Of these, it is estimated that 80,000 are criminal aliens who have been ordered deported. They are lost in the cities of America, as nobody is tracking them. One can only hope not to be a victim of these criminal aliens, but someone surely has and someone will surely be again.

They come to do “work that Americans won’t do”. They serve corporations and farmers who want low wage workers. They can’t maintain their families on these wages any better than an American worker can do, so they turn to our generous welfare safety nets. Nobody in the welfare agencies is allowed to ask the citizen status of these aliens. Indeed, brochures are printed that tell them, in their own language, of the “rights” they have in the system. Mexican consulates set up places for illegals to get Matricula Consular cards. They act as a form of I.D. for those who come into the country against our laws and are only needed by illegals; those in the country legally have other documents to prove it. In the state of Oregon recently, these Matricula Consulars were provided, along with advice by employees of the state as to how and where the card receivers could access the state’s welfare services. Tables were set up for the respective state agencies to dispense this information. It was held on a Saturday. Did the state agency workers get extra pay for working on Saturday? They were at least paid for a day’s work to provide information to illegal aliens as to how to use the safety nets paid for by taxpayers.

Scarce education dollars are provided for the aliens. Nobody is allowed to question a student as to his/her citizen status. No matter. Federal law ensures that anybody in the country may access our educational system. English as a Second Language is taught. Translators are required. When illegals realize that assimilating into the society is very difficult when they don’t speak the language, they are understandably frustrated and require psychologists, counselors and even attorneys to make sure they receive all their “rights”. Meanwhile, our schools are losing sports, music, art and TAG programs because there is no money for these programs once provided by taxpayers.

Many states are cutting back on health care programs. Yet, illegal aliens are allowed to use hospitals as primary care facilities, as hospitals are required by law to treat anybody who comes in. In the border states some of the hospitals have been forced to close their emergency care units because they cannot continue to do this, leaving the citizens without vital hospital care. The federal government provides money to hospitals to help alleviate this tremendous drain; the taxpayer gets the bill. America’s vaunted near eradication of some diseases is in the past. We have 16,000 new cases of tuberculosis (some drug resistant), 7,000 cases of leprosy (always considered a third world disease), and thousands more of hepatitis. One can only hope not to come in close contact with these disease carriers, but many have and many more will.

While taking advantage of our social welfare benefits, any money saved goes back to Mexico. Last year an estimated 20 Billion dollars was sent, which is now the largest source of income for Mexico, ahead of oil dollars and tourism. Those billions of dollars should be spent here and is a huge drain on our economy. One can see why Mexico’s Vincente Fox is promoting the riddance of his poorest citizens, so the American taxpayer will bear this burden, but why are we obliging him?

While this outpouring of taxpayers’ money is happening, our legislators are trying to keep it quiet. Indeed, they are busy trying to pass various amnesty proposals that would excuse the lawbreakers already here and act as a magnet for millions more to come. They refuse to call it what it is: amnesty. This endeavor is truly bi-partisan. The Republicans want it for their corporate and farmer contributors for cheap labor; the Democrats want it for the votes they feel will come their way.

Alien immigrant proponent groups have formed and are beginning to make their voices heard. The new mayor of Los Angeles is a Latino who advocates for making illegal aliens legal. He joins many other Latinos in California’s government. It is easy to see that once enough of a certain political bloc controls government, their loyalties will be in question. Will they want to protect the U.S. from invasion or will they favor their own race, making their power even more pronounced? Some subscribe to the theory that their land was taken from them, and they want it back. It is called "reconquista". They will do this by the ballot box, if possible, but the more militant are calling for stronger action.

And so the army comes, seeking what all armies seek: wealth, land and power. The silent invasion is happening, aided and abetted by those who will profit from it, to the detriment of those must pay for it.
