Clinton, Obama, McCain, Oh My!
The oompah loompahs are urging me down this path to the shining city, and toward the counsel and wisdom of the Wizard. I'm sick of following this crazy road, but they are convinced it is the only path to the pot of gold waiting at the end of the rainbow. They are shouting it from the rooftops and all the signs are pointing that way too. Meanwhile there are some flying high in their colorful balloons who don't seem bothered by all the commotion down here on the ground. They remain above it all and are happy to see the oompah loompahs preoccupied. All my friends I met along the way, the cowardly lion, the tin man and the stuffed shirt, who all seemed to be such promising allies in the beginning, have fallen out along the way. None of it was real. Sometimes it seems like it is just me and my dog, alone in this wilderness full of creepy oompah loompahs hiding behind every tree and in every nook and cranny, waiting for their handouts from the wizard. They watch me suspiciously with their beady eyes lest I figure out some way to destroy their dream and confidence in their wizard. There must be another path here somewhere, but for now we are all being propelled forward by the sheer weight and momentum of this movement. I suppose I could just join the faithful and become an oompah loompah. The handouts are there, and it might even be easier than fighting this tide. I haven't given up yet though, and I am definitely looking for a promising fork in the road.
I wish it were as simple as waking up or clicking my heels, to return to reality, but I think it is going to take something more drastic. I think things are going to get worse before they get better. In some ways I think we need to keep to this path and find our way to the shining city. Even though it will be anticlimactic for me when we pull back the curtain on the Wizard, some will not believe it until it is revealed. There is no Wizard. There are only men and women. We need to all wake up and quit relying on the government, a god or anyone else to solve our problems. We need to get back to independence, self-reliance, and free enterprise. If we don't wake up soon, I fear we may not recover in my lifetime. Brace yourself, it looks like we're off to see the Wizard...
