How did the spider make the web?
"Aw, it´s Mother Nature," you say. Who created Mother Nature? Father God. He gave the spider the brain, the know-how, the means to use such an ingenious way of getting its dinner.
The next door neighbour warned us the other day that a snake was seen in his garden adjoining ours. "It´s gone but its skin is hanging on the fence. Be careful," he said. How can a snake shed its skin and immediately have another skin? Only because God gave the means, surely.
How can we be so blind, so full of self-importance, so dismissive that many of us cannot see the wonders of creation that surround us – even in our own garden!
If evolution were true, every gorilla, chimpanzee and orang-utang would be able to design a jet plane, or rocketship, or a two-storey mansion. It is obvious they cannot.
The evidence of God is all around us. It is man´s pride and arrogance that will eventually lead him to a lake of fire ( the second death) for refusing to recognize there is a God, and rejecting Jesus, whom God sent as the Saviour to forgive our sins and redeem us.
Do we really think that our knowledge, money, education, science degree, prestige, is going to protect us in the midst of a tornado, an earthquake or tidal wave? Those latter things are beyond our control, but not God´s control. Remember how Jesus calmed the storm while the disciples were terrified?
We think we are self-sufficient. We sit in our easy-chair, smug, self-satisfied, reflecting on the $100 we gave to that charity. We think how good we are. Yet in God´s eyes we are not.
"I hate you" many of us have said – but Jesus said when we say it we have committed murder in our heart. Most of us have looked at a man or woman with lust. Jesus says if so we have already committed adultery in our heart. So we are not "good." We are guilty before God. The Bible says all our righteous acts (that we think make us good) are like filthy rags. Only salvation through Christ makes us righteous, the Bible says.
It says the heart is deceitful above all things. Jesus said: "For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies."
That´s human nature, still the same today. It´s why the world is in such a mess. It is why on an individual level Jesus says to each of us: "You must be born again." It means to have your heart and attitude changed through trust in Christ.
He is still saying that to you today. It is God´s plan. Jesus waits for you to put your trust in Him, not yourself.
