New Spiritual Forum For Saving The World

Josia Nakash
With each passing day, it is becoming abundantly clear that our politicians do not have the power to make our lives better. A special group of spiritually inclined world leaders has formed to solve global issues on another level.

One of the most important events of the decade took place this month in Arosa Switzerland, where some of the top minds in the world participated in the 3rd WSF World Spirit Forum.

This third 2006 WSF World Spirit Forum brought together the WWC World Wisdom Council with the first WSYC World Spirit Youth Council and delegates from spiritual non-profit organizations in a meaningful dialogue on what can be done to prepare for the future.

Renowned scientists, professors, non-profit executives and business leaders participated in the three day event (January 22-25) that may have played a great role in changing the destiny of the human race.

I would like to share with you foremost Kabbalist Michael Laitman?s presentation that was very well received by all.

Laitman spoke about the obvious unfolding crisis humanity is facing on all fronts, how we reached this present state and what can be done to resolve it. The following are some excerpts from his speech:

Our egoism causes harm. No other creature in nature is egoistic. Even if one devours the other, this happens according to the law of nature that operates on all living creatures. One creature devours the other according to its natural instinctive desire, rather than intention to harm. Apart from a human being, no other creature in nature relates to those around him with the intention to harm, use, exploit, or experiences pleasure when feeling better than those around him. Only a human being can delight in the misfortune of another person. Everybody acts according to nature's commands - with the exception of the human being who demands the whole world for himself.

It is particularly those extra needs of a human being, apart from those indispensable to life, which are called egoism. Egoism is an additional force of desire present in a human being above his bestial needs, above what his body demands. It is necessary to realize that this is the only harmful desire and force that exists in the world, and that the cause of all of our suffering lies in the incorrect use of this extra desire, since its usage is egoistical. This surplus part, the part besides whatever is indispensable to life has to be turned into bestowal. Through this, we will reach balance with nature.

No other object in nature has such a remarkable possibility of independent behavior: no one apart from a human being is free to choose the intentions of their actions for either taking for one's own sake, or for bestowing to others. No other creature is capable of egoistic reception or altruistic bestowal. Using this additional desire correctly, a person can rise to the Creator's level, to become an independent part of nature. Acting otherwise, a person destroys himself and reaches a state of self-destruction.

The world did not feel its tremendous egoism until egoism developed to the maximum desire for pleasure that is currently manifesting in humanity. The manifestation of egoism, meaning confrontation with the general law of nature, instead of similarity to it causes all sorts of suffering, diseases, and malfunctioning in a human being.

As a result, our confrontation with nature has led humanity to a general crisis. This crisis is not retribution from above, or a consequence of our brute intervention into ecology. It is rather our non-observance of the law of nature where everyone consumes the amount necessary for existence and passes the entire surplus into the hands of society. One can say that if every person corrected their intentions to act for the well-being of the entire humanity - the organism, as do cells of one body, then having the same attitude toward nature and ecological environment we would receive from nature only good. This is because we would be in balance at the ultimate level - thought.

Researchers have long discovered that the principal of functioning in a unified/integral organism, is that the general single purpose of individual egoistic cells and organs compels all to act altruistically, for the sake of the general goal of survival, existence, or development. Meanwhile, everyone agrees that what is being discussed here is egoistic altruism, directed toward survival, and not in the least toward unselfish altruism. It is personally profitable and brings prosperity in the framework of the community.

One can say that this is a new form of egoistic, fully conscious, and wise existence. Undoubtedly, here lies humanity's salvation. We, the 10% of altruists, must use all means possible and, employ mass media and science experts to advance the vision of a threatening and disastrous future coming closer with each passing day. To the extent that fear of suffering and the appeal of joint, collective, mutual help would convince everyone that egoistic altruism is profitable, since it restores balance?the best state possible.

What Laitman is talking about is creating a new set of values in society and even implementing those values in an artificial manner if necessary. The new value system would rank ?giving? as the most desirable human activity. His solution is based on creating a new society that rewards and honors bestowing to others rather than fulfilling our extraneous needs that can never be properly satisfied. According to Laitman this is the only way to bring the human ego back into harmony with nature and solve all the escalating problems humanity is currently facing.

The World Spirit Forum will convene again in Toronto this coming summer.
