Jesus is for the here and now
Yet Jesus also said he came to give us life, and give it more abundantly. He was talking of everyday life. Many don´t enjoy life for they are beset with anxiety, worry and the accompanying sicknesses. We are too preoccupied with business and busyness.
Those who know Jesus have an anchor in their lives. They will not follow the crowd to the divorce courts because they realize they made vows before God, and they´ll work on improving the marriage. God approves of marriage and will help in keeping it together – for those who will believe.
Another part of that anchor is divine wisdom in every aspect of life; eg decision-making - shall we move to LA or Atlanta; shall I take this job or that one.
That wisdom comes via God´s Holy Spirit whom Jesus said he would send for those who trust in him. Jesus describes the Holy Spirit as a helper who will guide us into all truth. Wow, a helper from God. Money can´t buy it! Christians around the world (and this writer) can testify to the Holy Spirit´s guidance in their lives.
Not only that, the Bible tells us angels shall minister for those who are heirs of salvation. They can take human form at will, and that´s why the Bible also says we can be entertaining an angel unawares. It could be that homeless man you see on the street and invite home for Christmas dinner. God can test believers to see what they will do in such a situation.
In other situations, angels are helping Christians in everyday life. That´s awesome in anyone´s book.
People are preoccupied with material things; how will I pay the rent, what about that electricity bill? Jesus says seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you. Be anxious for nothing, Jesus says.
How will God supply that need? It can be a cheque in the mail from a distant uncle; someone can give a car that can be sold; an angel can put a packet of money in the letterbox at 3 am. God can supply our need in ways we cannot imagine.
That´s so difficult to understand, for we operate only in the five senses, and by human logic. We need to trust in the spiritual realm, which God moves in.
An old pastor I knew used to say: "You can never outgive God," and that´s true. God gives the very air that we breathe.
The Bible is the how-to for everyday living. It contains the keys to a life full of divine abundance and wisdom. The way to collect those keys is to put your total trust in Jesus. He tells us he is the only way to God. That´s why he went to the cross to pay the price we ought to pay as sinners – and will still pay if we reject or ignore him.
