The Israeli Project and Hamas
Obviously, this project means the end of peace between Egypt and Israel and resumption of war. Egypt did not liberate Sinai to give part of it to anybody else including Palestinians. Sadat and later on Mubarak refused to put Gaza under the Egyptian rule and to annex it to keep the Palestinian land for its people, and not to allow this project to see light in a later stage. Egypt refused to recognize Israel as a Jewish State during peace negotiations between the two countries and now, to keep the refugees´ right to return and the right of the Palestinians living in Israel not to be deported.
Frank speaking, Egypt will not leave the Palestinian cause and will not take any steps against the Palestinian interests simply because Palestine is a part of the Egyptian National Security. Egypt considers Hamas a resistance force and it recognizes its right to resist occupation. It has never refused to talk to Hamas or to succumb to any pressure to consider Hamas a terrorist group. However, Palestinian factions and especially Hamas should put the Palestinian national interests before the interests of its militants.
Hamas came to power after an election based on an agreement between the Palestinian Authorities and the international community represented by the International Quartet. Hamas breached this agreement. As a national resistance force, it could have kept its ideology, but as a government, it should have agreed to international legality. This would have given the Palestinian negotiators a wider margin. Later on after its coup d´etat and it became the de facto ruler of Gaza, it should have looked after the daily life of people as a first priority. Its ineffective rockets brought Israeli missiles that killed many and gave Israel the illogic reason to put the strip under siege. Even this might give Israel the cause to blow up negotiations about an independent Palestine State. Its reluctance to make a deal about kidnapped soldier Shallit made Israel stops negotiating his release losing an opportunity to free some Palestinian prisoners. In other words, Hamas failed politically and economically to meet the Palestinian needs.
It is known that Gaza people have an economic relations and interests in Israel. Some work in Israel and they use its banks and other services. The strip is dependant upon Israel to have water, fuel and electricity. Hamas as a government should have kept some relations with Israel. As a resistance force, the ineffective strikes are tactical fatal mistakes. Therefore, these rockets should have been stopped since they have caused harm to Palestinians.
It is known that Israel has many spies among Palestinian factions including Hamas. One of them phoned the Israeli intelligence and its warplanes came to kill Sheikh Yassin. There are many signs pointing to a fact that breaching the Egyptian borders was previously planned. The wing that planned this should be exposed not to let it ruin the Egyptian-Palestinian relations or acting for the sake of the Israeli project.
When riots erupted in Gaza Hamas militants used aggressive and harsh means to suppress rioters, which means the group has the strength and the means to prevent chaos. Some Hamas militants were armed and behind women and children to kidnap Egyptian soldiers. Bringing tractors to open gaps in the border fence and stoning Egyptian soldiers who had orders not to respond are not acceptable. Some militants shot at Egyptian soldiers. It was a wise Egyptian decision not to make blood between Egyptians and Palestinians. However, thirty soldiers were severely injured and some may lose their lives.
When El-Zahar expressed his apology for these soldiers, it would have been much better if he ordered to conduct investigations to know those black masked men and handle them to the Egyptian Authorities to try them so that they would receive the proper punishment they deserve. After all, they ruined Hamas´ reputation by firing ineffective rockets to serve the Israeli plans of squeezing Gaza then exporting the problem to Egypt as a step towards the Israeli project.
Egyptian authorities allowed Palestinians to go to Raffah, Al-Arish to buy goods but three thousands Palestinians were arrested in Delta and Upper Egypt provinces, and some of them had arms and explosives. Five Palestinians armed and had a wireless device in a car were arrested in Sinai and other five in Taba who were carrying explosive belts.
What made a man carry a Palestinian flag and raise it on a building at Sheikh Zoayed city while chanting liberation slogans as if liberating his own land? He had clashes with Egyptian citizens who refused his behavior. This man violated the Egyptian laws of properties and humiliated the Egyptian sovereignty and he should have been tried and jailed for that. Hamas should expect different and less merciful treatment next time if its militants attacked Egyptian soldiers. Arrangements between Egypt, the Palestinian Authority are an urgent priority now not to ruin the Egyptian-Palestinian relations.
Hamas leaders should be alert not to allow this wing to act according to an Israeli agenda. The Israeli Defence Vice-Minister expressed his happiness about what happened and suggested that Egypt be responsible about Gaza Strip because this serves his planes. Obviously, this wing put Hamas and Israel in the same boat. Is this what Hamas as resistance force about? Of course the answer is no, but its leaders should be more alert not to have clashes with Egypt, the Palestinians´ main supporter and ally. Liberation is not about receiving money from regional powers to act on their behalf and fill the pockets of the militants as what happened when Iran paid 400 million dollars and the Saudi Arabia 250 million dollars. Now this wing acts on behalf of Israel.
Another question, why did not those who breached the Egyptian borders, stoned soldiers and smuggled explosives do that at the Northern Gaza borders? After all Israel is their enemy not Egypt. If it was all about buying goods then they should not have sent armed men with explosives.
A last word, until now the Arab Foreign ministries did not condemn breaching the Egyptian border and injuring Egyptian soldiers. I don´t know whether one should use a question mark or an exclamation mark.
