Robert Paul Reyes
An individual who spends a lot of time online is a nerdy loner who is socially retarded and a danger to society whenever he ventures away from his computer. Internet geeks have lost to ability to express emotions, the best they can do is reveal their feelings by typing emoticons. Heavy Internet use is a sign that you need help.

A new study by the "Pew Internet and American Life Project" demolishes this stereotype of the person who is anchored to his computer as an unbalanced loser.

According to the study the cyberwold expands users social networks and even encourages folks to talk by phone or meet others in person.

Allaying concerns that heavy use of the Internet might diminish people's social relations, the report finds that the Internet fits seamlessly with real-life encounters.

That's true, man is a social animal and is not content with communicating only via IM's and e-mails. Many relationships flourish and thrive when they move from cyberspace into the real world. A couple of my best friends, that I interact with in the real world -- I met online.

If you have a lonely and shy child, don't discourage him from spending time online. The Internet is the perfect place for your introverted youngster to find an online peer group that shares his hobbies.

The Internet does not promote isolation, on the contrary, it helps shy souls come out of their shells and express what's in their hearts with like-minded individuals.

If you see your child stuck to his computer, don't despair, that's not a sign that he's turning into a serial killer. However, if you tell a funny joke, and your son says "LOL mom" instead of laughing -- you may have a problem
