VOTE ANALYSIS OF DEFEATED DEMOCRAT TEMPORARY FISA EXTENSION BILL

California Political Desk
Today, 34 House Democrats joined a unanimous House Republican Conference in defeating a 21-day extension of the Protect America Act. The bill, which was defeated by a vote of 229 to 191, including all 195 Republicans, was brought up by Democratic leaders in an effort to delay consideration of a bipartisan bill to update our nation´s intelligence laws – and fix the existing terrorist loophole – that was overwhelmingly passed by a vote of 68 to 29 in the Senate yesterday.

In the interest of securing our nation and equipping our intelligence agencies with the tools they need to be successful, the Democratic Leadership must bring up the Rockefeller-Bond FISA bill before the Congress adjourns for recess at the end of the week.

The following is a list of the 34 Democrats that joined Republicans in defeating today just the latest attempt by Democrats to kick the can down the road:

Jason Altmire (PA), Dan Boren (OK), Leonard Boswell (IA), Michael Capuano (MA), Jerry Costello (IL), Lincoln Davis (TN), Peter DeFazio (OR), Lloyd Doggett (TX), Bob Filner (CA), John Hall (NY), Maurice Hinchey (NY), Rush Holt (NJ), Dennis Kucinich (OH), Barbara Lee (CA), John Lewis (GA), Tim Mahoney (FL), Jim Moran (VA), Christopher Murphy (CT), Patrick Murphy (PA), Frank Pallone (NJ), Donald Payne (NJ), Collin Peterson (MN), Steven Rothman (NJ), Loretta Sanchez (CA), John Sarbanes (MD), Jan Schakowsky (IL), Jose Serrano (NY), Tom Udall (NM), Tim Walz (MN), Maxine Waters (CA), Mel Watt (NC), Lynn Woolsey (CA), David Wu (OR)
