High School Football Championship Wager Settled on Assembly Floor
The Napa High Indians and the St. Mary´s Rams both had a 12-1 record going into the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Sacramento-San Joaquin Section Division I championship game. And come game time, the lead was constantly in flux. But after a turnover late in the 4th quarter, Napa got the game winning touchdown for a final score of 38-36.
"The game was more fun to watch than this year´s Super Bowl," said Evans. "It was also fun to see Greg settle up today, walking around the Capitol in an Indians jersey. I tried not to gloat too much about Napa´s victory but I couldn´t help myself. Greg was really a good sport about it all. And, I got some tasty wine out of it too. Victory is so sweet!"
Honoring the terms of the bet, Aghazarian praised the performance of both teams on the Assembly Floor. After the conclusion of legislative session, he also provided Evans with a case of fine wine from his Assembly district. See attached photos described below.
"I hope the Napa High School fans enjoy their victory today as I wear an Indians jersey around the Capitol," said Aghazarian. "But I would caution them to enjoy the moment while it lasts. The St. Mary´s Rams are already hard at work preparing for another championship run and hopefully a rematch with Napa High next season. While I join with Assemblywoman Evans today in recognizing incredible accomplishments of the student-athletes on both teams, I also look forward to seeing Noreen proudly sporting a Rams jersey next year at this time as we celebrate a St. Mary´s championship."
