Let’s Talk About God

Josia Nakash
Where is all our soul searching taking us? Is it getting us where we need to go or distracting us from the main event?

“Although a human being does not feel it, the Creator's Private Providence acts upon everybody, according to the root of one's soul which is the starting point of this governance, and then ending with the final stage, or final condition, when a human being has reached full adhesion with the Creator, and complete redemption of his root.”

Rav Michael Laitman, PhD

Notice how everyone is talking about God these days? That’s pretty typical for uncertain times. Some people are actually recounting entire conversations they have had with God while others claim to be receiving direct messages from Him.

That’s nice. I’m sure I’ve imagined myself talking to God about a million times in my life too, but do I have any actual proof of these conversations? Nope. Let me explain why and clarify some other misconceptions while we’re at it.

One of the first things you learn in Kabbalah is the word Bore – meaning Creator. He is at the top of every diagram and the designated goal at all times. The word Bore can be broken down to bo re’e – meaning come and see. God, or the Creator, is simply a step higher than your current level and the Hebrew word Bore can be viewed as “come see your higher step”.

Now here’s the thing. God, or the Supreme Power, or whatever you want to call Him, created a special staircase for us to rise up to Him. What’s so special about this staircase? It has 125 steps: 5 worlds with 5 levels, each consisting of 5 sub-levels. The description of our interactions with God on each level is what Kabbalah teaches us how to attain.

So altogether there are 125 steps you have to go up in order to reach Him. You work out at the gym – how difficult can it be?

That’s the catch. Getting up to the same level as God has nothing at all to do with your physical body. Everything we do at this level is for serving our body – we cloth it, we feed it, we wash it, we put it to sleep, we take it out for a jog or a ride in the car, we entertain it and pleasure it. All those things that we have become obsessed with over the years are simply distracting us from our true purpose in life.

Getting to the same level of God requires a very rigorous and demanding internal workout where your feelings and emotions are pushed to the limit over and over again. Why is it so difficult? Because we’re not just trying to reach God and chat with Him a bit. That’s not why He created us. He created us so that we could become exactly like Him.

Becoming like God mainly involves acquiring each and every one of his incredible traits. We are of course not capable of doing this ourselves. The only way of achieving this higher level is by drawing His light down to us so it can gradually correct us.

People have all these ideas that Kabbalah is a very mystical and abstract pastime when it is actually the most precise science in the world for speeding up the soul’s progress. The more focused you are on external things, the more you will succeed in this world. The more focused you are on your internal workout, the more light you will attract and rise above everything in this world.

But it’s not exactly a walk in the park. Each time you advance you find yourself at the bottom of your next step where everything is completely strange and unfamiliar. All of your prior accomplishments are erased and you are seemingly starting all over again from scratch.

Where am I going with all this? When all these actions finally allow you to cross the barrier between our physical world and heaven – there is no need to converse with God because you are actually on a similar level to Him. Just like old couples know each other inside out, there is no need to discuss things since they have essentially become as one.

At that point of merging with the Creator the entire workings of the universe are revealed to that person just like they were to Abraham and Moses, the first Kabbalists to grace the earth. While most of us only see our own reality around us, Kabbalist see all of humanity throughout time.

So it’s great that everyone has God in mind these days but are these imaginary conversations advancing us anywhere? Not really. It’s like a child using an imaginary friend to get by until they grow up and actually acquire real friends. God wants us to grow up!

Up until this point in time our souls have only been going down the staircase. Everything was done for us. But now it’s our turn to make an independent step upward. And on our way up our soul will actually go through each and every experience it went through on the way down here.

Now I’m one of those people that have always been pretty obsessed about working out. Growing up in Canada we were always swimming, skiing, water-skiing, camping, fishing, or sailing. And later when we moved to Israel I used to spend all my free time in dance classes. Then during a 5-year stint in New York rollerblading literally became the center of my life. I was an adrenaline junkie and so were all the people around me.

But when I finally found Kabbalah, I discovered that there is a type of adrenaline that surpasses all those activities I got so much pleasure from. And when I started attending Kabbalah classes, I let go of those things one by one because I had discovered something that was filling me more than I ever imagined possible. If someone had told me a few years ago that I would reach a point in my life where I would have no desire to ski in the winter?? Or rollerblade in the summer?? I would have said No Way! But it happened.

I’m now on a path that’s taking me way way higher than any mountain or half pipe could ever take me. I wish I could convey it to you in words but there are no words for explaining this feeling I have inside.

Kabbalists are people who have been studying God’s traits for thousands of years. They know exactly what He wants because they are on the same level as Him. And all they want is for you to benefit from their research so we can all enjoy infinity together.

Is there any way of me proving this to you? Nope. All I can say is come see how it feels and decide for yourself.
