Internet Publishing Might Be For You

Stan Grimes
Want to publish your novel on the Internet? It´s a tough road. I´m not sure how you feel about it, but I think the Internet is a big vacuum and many good writers get sucked into a black hole and are never heard from again. Why is that? I have a few ideas.

The Internet has been a great avenue for some writers and it has been the nemesis for others. The first hurdle for any writer is to find a publisher interested in taking on his or her book. There are many ebook publishers on the Internet, some are reputable, and others will publish anything with sentences. How do you know the difference? This is definitely not an easy matter for anyone. Your best bet is to search for listings of publishers of ebooks. "Predators and Editors" comes to my mind as one of the best sources. Another one that is a very good is EPIC. These two sites offer lists of reputable publishers from A through Z.

Today´s market seems to be hungry for erotic and science fiction genres, so if you´re a writer with a penchant for those categories you may have some luck. Suspense thrillers, humor, religion, horror, and paranormal genres appear to be saturated with big name writers. You know the ones of which I speak, Lee Child, Patricia Cornwell, Dean Koontz, Stephen King, etc. Those guys will chew you up and spit you out like a wad of bubble gum.

Don´t think that because you have submitted a book to "just" an ebook publisher that your novel is going to automatically published. Reputable ebook publishers are becoming just as selective as "paper" publishers. Ebook publishers want to make money like any other publisher. Believe me I know. My novels have been rejected both by electronic publishers and paper publishers. They are not "respecters of persons." They want to publish books that are going to sell. They´re stingy with their logos.

I really do not want to discourage writers however. I think the future is bright for "good" writers in the electronic publishing business. Recently Amazon came out with the "Kindle" ebook reader, no computer necessary thank you. It´s a reading device similar to Blackberry, Ebookwise reader, and Sony reader. With its introduction to the market, may come a greater awareness of downloadable books. It´s priced at $399.00 and is in stock. Don´t want to spend that kind of money? Try Ebookwise´s offering of a similar device for approximately $149.00. I love mine.

The secret to getting published on the Internet or anywhere for that matter is persistence. Don´t give up. Never give up. Keep writing until you get it right. If you´re good you´ll be published and those huge royalty checks will flow like water into your mailbox.
