Living in Fast Forward
"The wisdom of Kabbalah teaches a practical method to attain the upper world and the source of our existence. By realizing our true purpose in life, man attains perfection, tranquility, unbounded enjoyment and the ability to transcend the limitations of time and space while still living in this world."
- Rav Michael Laitman, PhD
We all rush around all day doing millions of things that we truly believe are advancing us in life. But advancing us to where exactly? What is the ultimate destination? How much more food, entertainment, x-rated pastimes, obsessing over celebrities, shopping and general over-indulging do we need to make us understand that these things cannot give us what we really yearn for inside?
Haven’t you ever stopped to wonder whether there is something beyond all the superficial things we do in our pursuit of happiness?
The truth is that we sort of wander around from one life to the next in a dream-like passive state, until all of a sudden one day -- in one of those incarnations -- this question comes up -- what is the meaning of it all? And this question hounds us from inside until it finds a satisfactory answer.
Here’s how it works. Our souls have been on this really long journey for thousands of years. But unconsciously. As crazy as it may sound the whole point is to get from Point A -- the Garden of Eden where everything started -- to Point B -- the final destination where we return to our ideal form just like we were in the Garden of Eden. Along the way and through all our incarnations (I sure hope Shirley MacLaine is reading this!) our soul has to go through a predetermined amount of ‘events’, which are referred to as reshimot in Kabbalah.
Reshimot comes from the word reshima in Hebrew which means list. So this indicates that our soul needs to experience these events in a very specific order. I’m talking about marriage, divorce, going to a party, getting fired, falling in love, breaking a leg, buying a new car – anything and everything that affects us in our daily life.
There are individual reshimot that affect us as individuals and general reshimot for humanity. What’s incredible is that all this is perfectly choreographed to ensure us all going through exactly what we need to advance us toward our destination.
So we have been going through this unrelenting process since the beginning of time. That was us back there wandering through the desert for 40 years and getting drunk in the 2nd Temple. Everything in the Bible is about us and all these states we have to go through to reach Point B.
Ok let’s talk about our ultimate destination Point B for a second. Because why would you want to fast forward to something you have no clue about? This is actually where we separate the men from the boys because as rewarding as it is, Kabbalah is a very demanding science where you actually become the center of your own research.
So what is Point B and why should you care? Point B is a place where your soul has completed its entire list of events or experiences and all you have left to do is CHILL. The Sabbath which is a day of rest was actually created by Kabbalists to give us a preview of what that state will feel like.
But anyhow, getting back to Point B, there is of course a catch. It took me a few years to figure this out so you’re really getting an insiders tip here. Even if you’ve finished going through everything you’re supposed to go through and reached Point B, you can’t really chill out until ALL THE OTHER souls on earth have reached the exact same point. So I feel like I’ve given you a tiny bit of an indication of what Point B is about but we can’t really imagine it properly because it’s totally opposite to the way we are now.
Now we’re getting to the really interesting part. If you’re one of the lucky people on earth who understand how important this process is for yourself and for all of humanity, Kabbalah provides you with a method for speeding up the process.
So people who study Kabbalah actually go through things that other people may go through over a period of five years, in say five months. Or even five weeks, days or hours. The big Kabbalists can actually go through hundreds of these states in a second. They do this consciously.
And even though some of these things manifest in our real life here, most of these dramatic events take place inside of us – where no one can see what is really going on – that’s why Kabbalah is called the Hidden Wisdom.
So what are we really talking about here? Studying Kabbalah under the right conditions draws the Light down to you and to all of humanity. The Light is the only way to correct your soul and prepare it for its big debut in the upper world where we are all going to eventually hook up.
Thousands of people join this process every year and to be perfectly honest some of them can’t handle this accelerated pace of life. It can be quite daunting at times, and if you don’t keep Point B in mind or have friends to remind you about it as often as possible, you probably won’t make it.
Setting a goal for yourself in this world is easy because you pretty much know what to expect. You register for university knowing that you’re going to “suffer” for a few years and come out with a degree that will help you make lots of money. You’re willing to suffer because you can see the goal and have examples all around you of people who have completely the process you’re about to embark on.
With Kabbalah it’s very different, because even if the person sitting next to you is on a higher level than you, you have no way of knowing unless you are actually on the same level.
Can you see the goal in sight? You’ve heard lots of nice things about it but is it really worth giving up so many things for? It’s hard to be sure when you have nothing tangible to compare it with.
This is where women have a clear advantage over men. Kabbalah requires perfecting a little thing called faith above reason that comes to us females quite naturally. You can’t see the goal; you can’t feel it and you have no idea what it really is. But you have something burning inside of you and all you really know is that you want more of that feeling more than anything in this world.
I’m often asked to provide some personal examples of how all this has affected my life. Well, let’s put it this way. All the therapy in the world wouldn’t have cured me of all the issues I had surrounding getting married and starting a family. You could have brought all the best doctors together to work on me and I would still be pursuing hopeless relationships with all the wrong men.
To make a really long story short, my husband and I met at one of our events for single people in the group. We went out on two dates, were engaged a week later, married the next month, and had a baby that same year. Talk about accelerating things, huh? It sounds like a happy ending but it was actually one of the most difficult years in my life going through so many changes at once.
I have been through so many earth-shattering things since I started studying Kabbalah that would have actually killed me if I was going through them under normal circumstances.
All I can say is Thank God for Point B. I wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for Point B and all the people who keep reminding me of its existence and how incredible it must be. Thank God for bringing them to me and for allowing me to fast-forward my soul to its ideal state by receiving the Light through my husband.
Thank God for bringing me to this special place that connects me to eternity. I’m so thankful that my long search is over and that I can finally concentrate on the only thing that really matters -- the point of life.
