Fred Thompson Departs With Dignity
Fred Thompson brought a cretin statesmanship to the 2008 presidential campaign the rest of the candidates lacked. Perhaps thatīs why he didnīt gain any serious traction. His wisdom was beyond the comprehension of the average voter and far beyond that of the media. Straight talk isnīt something that wins primaries. Only a small percentage of voters bother to involve themselves in caucuses and primary elections, perhaps as few as 25% on a good day. Thatīs hardly enough votes to effectively choose the nations next president.
If Fred Thompson made the choice a private life with his family is more important than suffering the slings and arrows of the media he may have made the wisest choice. Fred came into the campaign a reluctant candidate. Being one of a dozen or so men and women vying for the most important job in the country may not be so appealing after all. Weīve learned over the years men and women donīt seek the office for the respect theyīll receive rather for what they believe they can accomplish. Would the fight with congress be worth the meager results to be accomplished?
Fred was too much of a statesman to be a successful campaigner. Fred Thompsonīs mentor, Sam Erwin, one of the more astute legal minds of the 20th century gave Fred a sense of purpose and the advice to stay above the fray and stick with the facts. And to concentrate only on those battles worth wining then fight like hell.
Fred knows the Washington bureaucracy is broken and can only be fixed by a congress dedicated to serving "We the People" not their own self interests. Fred also knew until "We the People" are ready to stand by the person willing to fix the broken bureaucracy his candidacy was questionable. One man canīt stand alone and fight the good fight nor should he be expected to unless those heīs fighting for are appreciative.
More than any campaign in recent years this race has been a comedy of errors. It has been placed in the hands of handlers and publicists. Itīs not what the candidates believe in, if indeed they have any personal beliefs. Fred Thompson was the last man standing with the ability to speak extemporaneously on any issue and make sense meaning he had a plan and was willing to share it.
Fred was accused of entering the presidential race late. The campaign began with that moronic debate involving the childish internet web site "YouTub" an embarrassment Fred didnīt feel he needed to involve himself in. The debates didnīt turn around and become serious until Fred refused to play a silly game of 20 questions with the moderator in the Iowa debate. After that debate failed its purpose the Media took a second look at their poor performance and cleaned up their acts. Primarily because the media was making fools of themselves, Fred Thompson more than any other candidate should be given credit for the changes in the mediaīs conduct pertaining to debates.
Tonight there will be a thousand words written and spoken by the experts and pundits analyzing why Fred dropped out, why he didnīt catch on, why he failed as a candidate. I submit to you Fred didnīt fail the voters, the voters failed Fred. Fred had a message the public wasnīt ready to hear. The time is coming when a Fred Thompson will be carried into the Whitehouse on the voterīs shoulders much the same way Reagan was welcomed to the presidency. This nation canīt tolerate a second Jimmy Carter style administration filled with pseudo religious hyperbole and socialist propaganda. The public will rue the day they elect any one of the current Democratic candidates president.
This nation was created and built on the premise of individual incentives and hard work, not with shared wealth as Hillary suggests. Equal opportunity means everyone has an equal opportunity to succeed with hard work and intelligence not that prosperity is to be shared solely for the purpose of fairness.
Fred Thompson has served this country in many important positions over the years. Any president who doesnīt call on him in the future will be remiss for the omission.
Itīs time to say thank you Fred Thompson and we thank your family for all your concerns and efforts. We the public are the losers because of your departure not you.
