Half Time

While there are still 45 states to go, the Republican side of things has sifted through half its original candidates. Duncan Hunter dropped out right after the votes were counted in Nevada. Tonight´s rumors have Fred Thompson dropping out tomorrow, we´ll see if those rumors started by Fox News pan out - which leaves us with five left - John McCain, Rudy Giuliani, Mike Huckabee, Mitt Romney, and Ron Paul.

February 5th was Giuliani's planned day of decision from the beginning. While Romney has a lead in the delegate count, he really has no momentum going for him. With the media hold back the scandals relating to Bain Capital's dealing with the Chinese, there are land mines that lay in front of Romney.

From here on out, all the fire will be pointed at Romney. In an interview with Neil Cavuto, Duncan Hunter basically said "anyone but Mitt." Huckabee praised McCain for running a clean campaign in South Carolina, insinuating that Romney did not. Giuliani realizes there is only room on the ticket for one northeast liberal so he will start getting aiming more heat at Romney.

While this writer previously declared Fred Thompson to be the "Fusion Candidate," the amount of negativity that will be circulating between Romney, Giuliani, and Huckabee will allow John McCain to take title as the "Legacy Candidate."

The rest of the field is now fearful of saying anything bad of John McCain due to his war hero status. Mike Huckabee had Chuck Norris tell us that McCain is too old to be president, but that's about as far as anyone will take it.

Romney can't buy the 2nd Half any more than he bought the 1st Half. Rudy's reliance on dates, 9/11 and February 5th, won´t win it for him. Huckabee may be God´s candidate, but that won't play outside the south.

Leaving John McCain, the last man standing.
