The term FRP stands for Fiberglass Reinforced Polymer. This term is synonymous with "fiberglass column." Most people are surprised to find out exactly what a "fiberglass column" is comprised of. Surprisingly, the primary composition is not fiberglass. Fiberglass columns contain only about 2-3% fiberglass and the rest is marble, dust, and other materials to give the fiberglass column its strength.

Most people expect the fiberglass to be like the hull of a fishing boat, thin and lightweight. On the contrary, FRP fiberglass columns are more sturdy and heavier than most people believe. A 12" x 10´ architectural round fiberglass column weighs approximately 160 pounds and has a wall thickness of about ½ inch. This column can also hold an amazing 18,000 lbs!

The benefits are that fiberglass columns are structural and are backed with a limited lifetime warranty. They are impervious to insects and rot. Fiberglass columns are stronger than wood columns and also easier to install. FRP fiberglass columns are built to last a lifetime!
