Rick Santorum Condemns The Coverage Of The Iraq War

Robert Paul Reyes
Republican Sen. Rick Santorum criticized the media for reporting the "tragic consequences" of the war in Iraq. Focusing on them was "helping Islamic fascism win the battle."

The consequences of war are death and destruction, not to report on the fatal consequences of war is like covering a football game and not reporting on the injuries.

War is hell, when enemies face off against each other with guns, bombs and rockets -- soldiers die. Death, sometimes on a massive scale, is the inevitable consequence of any war, and it's incumbent on news organization to give us all the facts.

The American media outlets covering the Iraq war or not propaganda arms of the Bush administration, it is their responsibility to keep us informed about everything that is going on in Iraq, including American casualties.

But Sen. Santorum is being disingenuous, the American media is not focusing only on the "tragic consequences" of the war in Iraq. I'm a news junkie and I have read tons of stories about Iraq that don't even mention any American casualties: The Saddam trial, the recent elections and the booming economy in the Kurdish region to name just a few.

We live in a democracy and not a dictatorship, and thank goodness we have a free press and not Pravda-like organizations.

I'm thankful for the many news outlets that are providing with a complete picture of what is going on in Iraq, including the "tragic consequences of the war".
