Cardio vascular Diseases

Daniel Andrade
Cardio vascular diseases are caused by disorders of the heart and blood vessels including coronary heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, rheumatic heart disease, heart failure and congenital heart disease. Cardiovascular disease is the number one cause of death globally and is projected to remain the leading cause of death. Almost 1 million Americans die of cardiovascular diseases every year. The main disease process at the base of the cardiovascular diseases is atherosclerosis, or hardening and clogging of the arteries. When advanced, this coronary artery disease can result in a myocardial infarction. (Heart attack) and spoil ones health.

The main risk factors of cardiovascular diseases are:

Cigarette smoking

High blood pressure (hypertension)

Stress

Cholesterol levels

Diet

Alcohol

Obesity

A block in the arteries of the heart will prevent the blood supply to a portion of the heart resulting in a blood clot in the coronary artery eventually leading to heart attack. The warning signs of heart attack include:

pain in the center of the chest lasting more than a few minutes,

Pain spreading to the shoulders, neck or arms. The pain may be mild to intense. It may feel like pressure, tightness, burning, or heavy weight. It may be located in the chest, upper abdomen, neck, jaw, or inside the arms or shoulders.

Increase in heart rate

Anxiety, nervousness and/or cold, sweaty skin

To keep the blood pressure low with age and minimize the atherosclerotic process to maintain good health we need to do the following:

Eat a diet low in saturated fats, cholesterol, salt, and processed, refined foods (both fats and sugars).

Eat high-fiber foods.

Eat plenty of whole grains, fruits, and vegetables.

Exercise or have a regular, active lifestyle, especially including walking.

Keep body fat low

Most of the common vegetable oils are high in the omega-6 fatty acids, though they contain mainly gamma-linoleic acid (GLA). Soybean oil and walnut oil are higher in the omega-3s, and linseed oil is highest. All of the EFAs, both omega-3 and omega-6, help in cell membrane support and prostaglandin synthesis and hence serves as a good health diet. They also help in the transfer of oxygen in the lungs and are essential to growth in the young.

Fruits are also recommended. They have some nutrients, and are high-water-content cleansing foods that make the diet more alkaline. A diet of only fruit and vegetables for a week or two is a good way to realkalinize our body and blood, which aids detoxification and lowers blood fats. A more acidic, richer diet creates more mucus, and thicker, more viscous blood, and lymphatic congestion.

"One step begins a ten thousand mile journey". So take all the necessary precautions for a healthy heart.
