Water is a fundamental part of our lives to maintain good health. It has been ranked second next to oxygen essential for living and is an important requisite to maintain health. Water content in average adult body is 55 – 75%. The body must replace about 2 ½ quarts of water. All the processes occurring in the body takes place in water medium, this water is important enjoy sound health. Water we consume helps in digestion and absorption of food, regulates the body temperature, carries the nutrients and oxygen to the cells and helps in removing the toxins and wastes, helps in regulating blood circulation. It also cushions the joints and protects the tissues and organs from shock and damage.

Most of the people do not drink enough water and this leads to chronic dehydration followed by serious problems like hypertension, asthma, allergies and headaches.

An easy way to reduce weight, to keep your fitness and health:

Water serves as appetite suppressant as it is calorie free and helps the body to metabolize the stores fat. Drinking more water stimulates the kidneys and reduces water retention.

Increased water along with fiber content eliminates constipation problems which is the main symptom of dehydration. It also reduces gastritis, duodenitis, ulcer and heart burn. Uric acid, urea and lactic acid are removed as wastes by the kidneys. These wastes are not efficiently removed when there are not enough water intakes leading to kidney dysfunction. Dehydration also causes decreased energy generation in the brain leading to depression and chronic fatigue.

Back pain is frequently alleviated with hydration. The upper body weight about 75% is stored in the spinal disc core and 25% is supported by fibrous materials around the disc. These are dependent on different hydraulic properties of water stored in disc core. Joint deterioration & increased pain are caused by dehydration of cartilage. Rheumatoid joint pain decreases with increased water intake.

Thirst reflux is indicated by dry mouth. Body compensates the water insufficiency by retaining water to compensate the shortage. Therefore body´s physiological function can be impaired if less water is consumed.

Drinking pure water is better compared to other beverages containing water as they may have substances which will not help to take water efficiently.

On an average a person requires 8 glasses of water everyday for maintaining his health. A non active person needs a half ounce of water per pound of body weight per day. An active, athletic person needs 2/3 ounce per pound of body weight. Do not drink more than 4 glasses within any given hour.
