How to Maintain Foot Health
Ignoring our feet is not a good idea, though, and we should occasionally treat our feet. The first step in maintaining good foot health is to keep the feet dry. Athlete's foot occurs because sweaty feet cramped in dark sneakers that do not let air in provide the fungus with an ideal environment for growth. We can help keep it off of our bodies by using sweat socks that we change daily and adding foot powders designed to soak up excess moisture.
The next step in maintaining good foot health is making sure the feet have the tools they need to do the job that we expect of them. People who need to stand on their feet all day will find their feet and backs sore if they do not have the proper shoes. The key component is that the shoes must be comfortable, fit well and provide good arch support. The shoe itself must also be the right size, neither to small nor too large.
Occasionally, we encounter a blister when trying to take care of our feet. If not properly taken care of, blisters can aggravate our foot health and require serious medical attention. (This most often happens when we wear improperly fitted work boots.) Simply pop the blister and put a band aid over it.
Even if we do take care our feet the best way we properly can, athlete's foot will sometimes occur. Anti-fungal food powders and spray will kill the fungus, but keeping the feet dry is essential to preventing further breakouts. Keep your feet healthy and happy and they will take care of you for the rest of your life. If you make the mistake of buying the wrong shoe or need to wear dress shoes from some function, inserts such as those made by Dr. Scholl's can help give your feet the support and the comfort that they deserve. Diabetes and other diseases may require that you pay even more attention to your feet than most people, but even so, no one should neglect what they walk on every day.
