Headache Pain: What You Need to Know and Do
Headaches are caused by many factors, including certain foods, hormonal changes, eye strain and poor posture. However, the vast majority -- experts say about 75 to 90 percent -- are caused by tension and stress.
The Sedona Method, a tool that teaches you how to release negative emotions including those associated with physical pain, works to relieve headache pain in two ways:
“Physical pain is at least part memory,” says Hale Dwoskin, CEO and director of training at Sedona Training Associates. “That’s how we know that a sensation is painful -- by comparing it to other painful feelings from the past.”
“When we allow ourselves to look past the label of pain,” he continues, “we can actually experience the sensations that are here now.”
This is where the Sedona Method comes in. Whenever you feel pain, you simply ask yourself the easy-to-learn questions that make up the Method. This allows you to accept the pain, which is a crucial step toward ultimately releasing it.
“If you are willing to welcome these painful sensations and have a desire to change them, they naturally start to dissolve,” Dwoskin says.
The more you resist, fear, or dread your headaches, the more you are drawing pain into your experience. Just waking up in the morning and thinking “I hope I don’t get a headache today” could be enough to manifest one.
However, if you wake up and accept what is, without worrying or even thinking about a headache, you are prepared to have a pain-free day. If a headache does occur, you can use The Sedona Method to let go of your feelings about it, along with the actual pain.
“Another thing you can do to clear pain,” Dwoskin says, “is welcome the sensations you are calling pain and welcome the part of your body that is not painful. You can even focus on the emptiness or space in which the pain appears.”
“If you go back and forth between welcoming both the sensations and the place without sensations,” he says, “the pain naturally dissolves. This holistic release can relieve even long-standing pain..”
