Acne Prevention

People who have oily skin are more prone to acne than people with drier skin. Taking care of oily skin requires special treatment and more care must be taken to keep the pores clear. Oil and dirt are the major causes of clogged pores, which result in the rash we know as a pimple. People who start out with oily skin need need to keep as much oil off their faces as possible.

Astringents are a great way to clear oil off the face, but the best way to dry the skin out enough to keep pores from clogging is to apply an oatmeal masque. Masques, made with oatmeal or otherwise are a good way to draw oil and dirt out of the pores. It is not difficult to make an oatmeal mask. All the ingredients are probably already in your kitchen.

Instant oatmeal is out for this purpose. Buy a container of Quaker Oats or one of its competitors. Put the oatmeal and a small portion of skim milk in a blender than let the mixture dry out until it has a pasty texture. Once it has dried, apply the oatmeal to your face. Not only will using this mixture save you a great deal on expensive store-bought scrubbing masques that server the same purpose, it will also make anyone who looks in your cupboard think you are more health conscious than you really are.

After letting the masque sit on your face from a quarter to a half an hour take the masque off and rinse it with cold water. The masque which has saved you a few dollars not only clears up the excess oil on the skin, but should animals or little children manage to eat your cosmetic product, its completely edible and therefore non-toxic nature will not cause any lasting damage. (It may mean that you need to make up another batch of the oatmeal masque depending on how much of your homemade beauty product is consumed.)

The oatmeal mask will help keep excess oil off the skin. If you have oily skin, washing twice a day in addition to a regular application of the mask will help keep the red splotches off your face and keep the oil content down. If any of the oatmeal should be left over, it can be used in many baking recipes to create a healthful snack or enjoyed during breakfast.
