Finding the Right Adult Acne Treatment

Angela Rogers
Acne is a common condition amongst teenagers, but many adults suffer from chronic acne that mars their complexion and causes continued embarassment. The causes of adult acne are varied, and for some people a change in diet may cause the skin condition to ease up, but getting rid of it is the goal of anyone once a red pimple appears on their face. The cost can range from a few bucks to hundreds of dollars.

If you have not already done so, one of the best sources to find out about acne products that work is your local dermetologist. Sometimes bacteria on the face cause pores to become clog and a simple topical antibiotic will prevent further break outs. If the cause is something other, he can tell you what it is as well.

What type of acne treatment will work best to clear a break out of adult acne will depending on the type of skin the sufferer has. Dry, oily, and normal skin all require different treatments and in many cases the cause for each type of acne is likely to be different.

For normal to dry skin almost any product that is not specially formulated for oily skin will help. Almost all acne products on the market except those with any oil base will work to help clear up an acne breakout in an adult. People who suffer from dry skin should avoid lotion based products that contain propylene glycol. This oil may serve to dry out the skin and further aggravate the condition.

People who have oily skin face a different problem. Moisture is not the problem that caused the acne and using a product that retains moisture on the skin may further irritate the skin and cause more pimples to appear. Alcohol based products, such as astringents, clear the skin of the oils on the outer layer that promote acne and help keep the pores that are not already affected clear. Using an alcohol based product will also clear any bacteria that may cause clogged pores off of the skin.

When buying an acne product whether it is to cure adult acne or not, consider the type of skin that you have before making a purchase. Using a product that dries the skin on a person with dry skin for example, can lead to other problems, and people who have oily skin types will not benefit from a product intended to moisturize their skin.
