Iowa Was No Surprise

Ken Hughes
The caucus process isn’t the way to select a presidential candidate. Standing in the four corners of a school gymnasium raising hands doesn’t seem very presidential. If a particular candidate doesn’t get a specific numbers of votes it’s my understanding those votes can be bartered to another candidate. Iowa is a relatively small state its population isn’t diverse enough to represent the nation as a whole which leaves us wondering why Iowa was so important. Most of the issues being presented were of little or no interest to most of the residence of the state however that didn’t stop the rhetoric.

The truth is Iowa was a [location] not a state fair, the citizens of Iowa were simply window dressing for a national contest. The only advantage to Iowa was the millions of dollars wasted by the candidates on the plus side it prospered the states economy. The votes cast in Iowa wouldn’t elect a mayor of most small cities in the Midwest.

The political pundits, the media and especially the candidates just don’t get it. Today voters are more sophisticated, they’re more likely to make up their own minds and pay less attention to the various categories they’ve been put in by the aforementioned. Since the election of 2000 conventional wisdom had Hillary Clinton and Rudy Giuliani as the two candidates in the 2008 presidential election. The good people of Iowa didn’t follow the script again conventional wisdom says New Hampshire and subsequent states won’t follow the scripts either. New Hampshire is a predominantly liberal state the attention will be on the Democratic Party to determine New Hampshire’s influence on the general election in November.

Michigan’s primary may be one of the important deciding factor. Governor Jennifer Granholm a Democrat has placed the state at the bottom of the nation’s economic ladder with her progressive taxing policies. Like the National Democratic Party Michigan Democrats subscribe to a policy of “Back to the future or going forward looking in the rearview mirror.” Democrats believe any problem can be solved with a new tax increase. Michigan voters may be more inclined to vote against Democrats in retaliation for what they’ve done with the states economy.

The three top Democratic candidates are insistent on increasing taxes, none have told the public what the new taxes will be spent on. Obama says we need to address poverty, there is no poverty, and the only poverty is in politics depriving students of a decent education.. Supposedly there are 20 million illegal workers in this country. Those jobs would be available to citizens if they would do them there’s no excuse for mass unemployment in America, not even in Michigan. It’s difficult to believe super rich politicians when they discuss the plight of the poor and not question their motives.

Politicians have spent decades convincing the public they aren’t intelligent enough to manage their own lives. Liberalism and political correctness have gone far beyond what the public is willing to continue to accept. This may be the election that starts our way back to what the founding fathers guaranteed us in the constitution. The majority of the population has always considered them-selves intelligent now the internet provides the tools for them to prove it. The unrestricted flow of information is becoming a politician’s worst nightmare and they aren’t recognizing it, they will in time.

Technology is moving the world forward at a rate many can’t comprehend. Technology isn’t going to slow down that leaves it to people to speed up and if elected officials can’t keep up they need to be replaced with those who can.

Super Tuesday is coming, those 20 plus states will be the deciding primary elections nominating the candidates.
