Cindy Sheehan: a memoir or an epitaph?

Allan J. Ashinoff
It appears the anti-American, anti-war, death opportunist Cindy Sheehan?s tune has worn thin in America so she has taken her song overseas where it belongs. Yes, this woman whose only claim to fame is that her son Casey was killed while voluntarily serving his nation in the war against terrorism, during his second enlistment, has traveled to Europe. Ms. Sheehan has sacrificed her time, her marriage, her family, and her son?s memory so her voice will be heard. Ms Sheehan it appears, after taking to the speakers? tour circuit, is being given the honor of having her memoir published. Please tell us Cindy what you thought of peddling your son?s death for profit in a Crawford ditch?

Most sadly I was not considered for the honor of Ms. Sheehan?s memoir. But that is as it should be since my memoir of Ms. Sheehan would read more like a political epitaph. An epitaph for someone who is well past the point of crispy from the undeserved and overextended lime light she has been given. It would undoubtedly read some thing like this:

Cindy Sheehan anti-war mouthpiece of the liberal left, trumpeter of anti-American rhetoric that her handlers dare not say directly, and incidentally the mother of Casey Sheehan, a soldier who died serving his nation in Iraq, has led a storied if not propped up crusade to slander the President, degrade America, and defecate on her son?s memory simply to promote her cause. Cindy Sheehan whose star shone bright in certain dark circles has finally turned her son?s memory into gold as she tours the speaker?s circuit and now prepares to write a book of her self induced ordeal.

Cindy Sheehan, whose liberal death qualification has granted her expertise on a diverse range of subjects, has now fallen from usefulness to her handlers as John Murtha?s credentials and mouth have been cajoled to step before the camera. As every trick a dog performs for its master deserves a treat; Cindy is undoubtedly about to be compensated for her fervor and obedience to her keepers. When does this mother have time to grieve? When does mom find time to visit a grave site as she jets across the country, and now the world, speaking to groups who hate the notion of her son?s decision to serve and go to war.

I guess, as her wise handlers probably figured, I?m too bitter to write her biography, memoir, or even her epitaph. As a father, as a man, and as American veteran I have never understood the likes of a Cindy Sheehan. Her motives are disgraceful. Her conduct is loathsome. Her sincerity is questionable at best. Her desire to be in front of the camera coupled with the medias desire to build an anti-war movement around her is just shameful.

Ms. Sheehan if your initial claims of the war being unjust are correct what does that do for your son?s memory? It turns your son into a dupe, a patsy, and a fool. What do your claims, if true, mean to other soldiers parents? It disgraces America and blackens the memory of those killed and injured in Iraq. It condemns the Iraq front in the war on terror as something dishonorable that America will, as is natural, seek to forget or ignore. Is that your goal? Ms. Sheehan, how is your sons memory (his decision, his actions, his life and his death) honored by your actions? And, Ms. Sheehan, what is it you hope to gain from your spectacle and for whom?

It?s easier for the liberal left to blame America for everything. After all, if they throw stones at Europe?s inaction they tarnish their societal hero?s. If they throw stones at the Arabs breeding terror they could provoke violence? Liberals aren?t as big on self-defense as they are on appeasement. America must be evil?or so says the money chain from Europe.

Good luck with the memoir Cindy. You?re going to need all that money to comfort you when the TV lights go out and your liberal keepers discard you. ?Muuurtha?Muurrtha!? You hear that Cindy? It?s inevitability creeping up on you. Enjoy what little time you have left. Like an empty Coke can, or worn our earth shoes, its almost time to head to the trash can.

And Ms. Sheehan?Cindy?mother?for goodness sake ? step away from the microphone and get your child a headstone!
