Where Are The Republicans

Ken Hughes
The only thing the Media seems to be interested in on the Republican side of the campaign is Romney’s Mormon religion and Huckabee dancing around the edges of his religion. Seventeen Mormons sit in congress the leader of the Senate Harry Reid is Mormon. The Mormon religion dates back to the 1830’s that’s nearly as old as the nation itself. As far as I can determine Mormons have been every bit as loyal to America and its construction as any other group of people. Most of what bloggers are saying about the Mormon religion are old wives tales that have been circulating around for years. Like most other religious people Mormons believe their country comes first and their religion second. To think other wise is not to know Mormonism.

What exactly is it Mike Huckabee has to offer the country except a quick wit? So far most of his platform is more than a little iffy on most of the issues. Like that other man from Arkansas [Bill Clinton] Mike Huckabee isn’t sure what the word “is” means. Mike Huckabee is not the second coming of an Abe Lincoln from Arkansas as he is being portrayed. Arkansas politic is such only the masterful rise to the top, Mike Huckabee like Bill Clinton built his reputation on words more than deeds.

A politician is a politician is a politician and Mitt Romney is no exception, having said that Mitt Romney is the only candidate that has experience in all the facets of American society. Mitt Romney a successful businessman took control of the Salt Lake Winter Olympics when it was in fear of failing and made them a success. The only origination more corrupt than the International Olympic Committee would perhaps be the UN. Mitt Romney was able to deal with them in spite of their greedy ways. Perhaps one of Mitt Romney’s greatest political accomplishments has been Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the home of two of politics most devout liberals, Teddy Kennedy and John Kerry, [co-chairs of the Hate America Society.]

Rudy Giuliani reminds us of Hillary Clinton, Rudy Giuliani seems to have an answer to every question and they don’t always match up. There’s no question Rudy Giuliani was one of the heroes of 9/11. He took that popularity to the bank to the tune of millions while others received a pat on the back and a lifetime of illnesses. Rudy Giuliani can’t withstand the scrutiny that will follow him if he’s nominated as the Republican candidate.

Fred Thompson has been a disappointment to all his supporters. Its obvious Fred Thompson is more comfortable in front of cameras than a live audience. When Fred Thompson went from a speculative candidate to the real thing he lost his charm with the media and didn’t have what it took to generate any interest on his own among the voters. This is diffidently a case where the Media made the candidate

Dr. Ron Paul deserves mention he’s a man of conviction. Although his politics is outdated by nearly half a century he deserves recognition for reminding us of better days. Someone once said if we turn the clock back eventually it returns to where it started. Dr. Paul is doing his best to turn the clock back to a time when we were less challenged, a time when civility came before the individuals greed.

The rest of the Republican candidates are well meaning men, they know in their heart of hearts they don’t stand a chance of becoming the nominee. What they do know is by bartering their supporters to other candidates some of their proposals will be considered at the national convention. They know one of them will most likely be selected as the running mate of the nominee.

Republicans will lose the coming presidential race and the congressional races unless they start listening to what the rank and file of the Republican Party and voters are demanding. Conservative Republicans can live with a pronominally Democratic presidency and congress for an election cycle if it will rid the Republican Party of some of those who’ve been in Washington to long to be effective. Republican politicians should be men and women who lead their followers. Democrats simply follow their leaders.

From what we see of the candidates of both parties coming up in the 2008 presidential election, there really isn’t much to take pride in. The Media isn’t helping when they tend to use tabloid tactics reporting on the candidates. The media writes more about Ramey’s religion and Giuliani’s sex life than what they intend to do about illegal immigration and other issues. Huckabee’s clever comments are getting a lot of attention. I doubt the country will elect a smart-assed president regardless how close he thinks he is to Jesus.

Its time the Republican Party woke up to the fact they’ve been a bunch of losers in recent years. They have only themselves to blame. They can’t act like Democrats and expect to be Republicans.
