Who really benefits from the death of Benazir Bhutto?
Her father Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto served as President from 1971-1973 then as prime minister until he was ousted by a coup by his generals led by Zia-ul-Haq. As the father of PPP he began to groom his children for future leadership roles. There were many cries of corruption during his time in office. This would later influence his daughters Benazir’s ouster on two occasions. He was executed in 1979 for the murder of a political opponent though denied by family and Party officials.
Although we in the west have known the name of his daughter Bhutto’s son’s lives and subsequent deaths remain pretty much unknown. The youngest Shahnawaz had died in 1985 under circumstances never revealed. It was thought that his wife of Afghan origins Rehana may have poisoned him. Although some including French investigators believe that this was a drug over dose in his French Reveria home.
The eldest son Murtaza became a left wing radical following the execution of his father in 1979. He was suspected of many crimes that involved murder and had ties with Syria, Libya and leftist in war torn Lebanon. He died in a gun battle with police in Karachi as he and his followers refused to have themselves or vehicle searched at a military check point.
We must not forget that our government fought any socialist regimes in the 70’s and early 80’s as this was the main threat to our way of life. It should not be surprising that we were very involved in the Zia regime as though it was a military dictatorship we had a piece of the puzzle in world domination. He was considered an ally. After Zia died with some of his top generals in a plane crash with American Ambassador Arnold Lewis Raphel in 1988. We then supported the democratic movement again this brought about the return of the PPP the now center leftist party led by Benazir the founders daughter.
This ten year attempt at democracy ended with the coup that overthrew Mia Muhammed Nawaz Sharifs government in 1999 by The Pakistani Army led by General Pervez Musharraf. Maybe now we can understand the turmoil of this fragile government we must deal with on the front lines of terrorism.
We have demanded that Musharraf step down as military commander and hold elections. We have again interfered in another countries destiny that may in the end bite us back. The politics of the seventies have come back to haunt us. Why would Musharraf want Benazir dead as we had bragged that we brokered a deal? Why was there no security for Benazir as this person was able to get right up on top of her motorcade? Why on earth was she allowed to stand up in a armored car and expose herself? Where were those PPP security people when this was happening? Only Al-Qeada will benefit whether directly involved or not as the Pakistani Army would have been in control anyway.
We again don’t understand or remember history and again we fail. It’s the beginning and just might be the end. Is Bin Laden just laughing now as we have little or no control of the outside world as we try to force our beliefs upon it?
We destroyed the Soviets by out spending them. Are we getting out spent monetarily? Have we lost too many rights trying to adjust to the so called threats? Is this where we begin to talk and understand that this one world society thing won’t work as we are not all from the same mold?
