Popular Fad Diets: Why Are They Bad?
Even though an individual may say that he/she will not try a fad diet, there are just as many dieters that will. This keeps the fad diet industry alive.
The problem with these popular fad diets is that they do not give lasting results. As a result you spend the money and the time on a fad diet only to regain the weight. Two things can happen.
First, you give up completely on the diet and write it off as a bad diet and move on to a next dieting plan. Or you restart the same fad diet thinking that the weight gain was your fault some how. The last situation is what the makers of that fad diet are hoping for.
The American Heart Association had published some ways for people to recognize a fad diet so that they can avoid the problems with fad diets. Recognizing a fad diet is easy when you take the time to look at the warning signs that the American Heart Association had published.
Does the diet plan tell you that you will lose a lot of weight in a short amount of time? If so then it could be labeled as a fad diet. Fast weight loss is not from losing fat, it is from losing water weight. It is not a good thing for dieters to try and lose weight quickly.
Does the diet plan restrict certain food groups? If so then dieters are more likely to break the rules of the diet. Restrictive diets do not allow for dieting success. This is another sign of a fad diet.
Does the diet boast about weight loss without to much emphases being put on exercise? Almost all health doctors will tell you that it is impossible to truly lose weight and keep the weight off without exercise. So when a diet brags about weight loss with hardly any emphasis being placed on exercise then this is another fad diet.
