Religion, The Endless Debate; Who's Right, Who's Wrong?

Judy Ramsook
Religion. Just mention the word and people who are willing to become engaged in what could be an ongoing debate/argument will do just that. If one is fortunate enough to live in a society in which such discussions can be tolerated, he should be grateful for the privelege.

In some societies in the world, discussions or debates about religion are not allowed, at least not in public forums.

The reason for this is simple. Religion is and has been a sensitive issue for many, especially if individuals are among others who have different beliefs and concepts of who or what God or their God should be.

If such a discussion/debate becomes heated enough to provoke acts of violence, what will follow is a domino effect of eruption after eruption of other fights and battles over who is right and who is not.

This is what it’s about. Whose religion is right and whose isn’t, for everyone who has a belief system thinks that his is right.

I have witnessed people arguing over such matters, and when one has seen how easily some one who is calm one moment and quickly moved to anger the next is at the mentioning of such an issue, is when it is observed how serious an issue this is.

Some people will go to great lengths to bring forth their Holy Book to prove whatever point he is trying to make by further opening the book to cite a particular passage.

Even if it means trying to convince the other party in the discussion that his view is right and yours is wrong. That’s when things turn to anger, for everyone who has a religion believes his is the right one.

Tempers will flare, insults might be hurled at each other and friendships may be lost over such heated debates, but one thing will always stay the same.

People have been arguing about religion before we were born and many who come after us will continue the endless debate no one might win. Who’s right, who’s wrong? The debate continues.
