Florida and the DNC
Florida had been a highly contestable state in both the 2000 and 2004 elections and is now slated to continue in that contestable vein if someone does not back down from our primary date of January 29th, 2008. After the debacle of 2000 and again in 2004 presidential elections with regard to recounts, hanging chads, numbers of people turned away from voting, etc. one would think that Florida would do everything in their power to see that each and every vote counts. However, that does not appear to be the case.
In 2006 the Democratic National Committee set forth clear and concise rules and regulations outlining how the electoral process should unfold state by state. Despite those clear rules Florida’s Democratic leaders decided to move our primary date up ahead of many other states causing Florida voters to possibly lose our ability to count those votes in this crucial election.
Florida has been and continues to be a swing state in national elections and if we are unable to count the Democratic votes of our entire state in the primaries this could give the Republican’s a huge advantage. Quite frankly this is an advantage that I am unwilling to give. Therefore, I beg the leaders of the Democratic Party in Florida to adhere to the rules and regulations set forth by the DNC so ALL of our votes can count!
If any of the readers out there are registered Democrats, like me, who reside and vote in Florida they should demand that the Florida DNC adhere to the previously scheduled primary dates so we can be assured that all votes are counted in the upcoming election. I urge you to call or write the Florida DNC telling them that failure to do so is inconceivable and a risk we do not want to take. Please do your part and act NOW!
