Zoonosis (diseases from animals) and Human beings

The purpose of this article is not to discourage keeping pets or pet owners because pets do help the elderly in need of companionship, medical reasons or emotional value. It is hoped that this article will help them to make informed decisions about dealing with pets and setting parameters to avoid health complications for individuals leading to financial implications.

Zoonosis is a name of a study in medicine that deals with diseases and infections naturally transmitted between animals and man, usually by direct contact, insect bites, inhalation and ingestion. Rodents, types of parrots, cats and dogs, and sea creatures like fish, cause these diseases and infections. Here are some of them.

People who keep mice and rats as pets are likely to get Hantavirus (which usually infects young people), Leptospirosis and plague (which is also caused by cats). Those who keep Guinea pigs and hamsters are likely to have limphosidic corium meningitis (LCM). In addition, turtles, iguanas, lizards and snakes carry a disease called Salmonella, which is a major problem developing is the USA.

There is also bad news for people who keep birds as pets. Psittacosis (also known as Parrot Fever) and Avian influenza A (bird flu) are usually found in parrots, parakeets, cockatoos, canaries, pigeons, sparrows, ducks, egrets, chickens, turkeys and ferrets. Frequent diseases like influenza, campylobacter cryptosporidiosis (18%), tuberculosis that causes TB are all found in Ferrets, which are the member of the parrot family. Humans can get these diseases by cleaning their cages, touching their waste, getting their nasty bite, handling the sick birds, visiting bird parks, and by letting bird beaks to meet their mouths, which causes food borne disease.

This is surprising; do you know that at night when you sleep next to your cat or dog with your mouth open, their FLEAS jump into your mouth? So, for the people who sleep next to their pets with their mouths open. I advise you to stop sleeping next to your pets. Because if you ingest dog or cat fleas that contain larvae you can have tapeworms (Dipylidium Caninum), abdominal pain, diarrhea, itchy bottom, Pruritus ani, which is usually a solitary worm of 4-28 inches in length in large bowl and Tx: Niclosamide.

You decide if a Man’s best friend is a best friend after you finish reading this. Dogs cause you to have anthrax, brucellosis, campylobacteriosis, cryptosporidiosis, giardiasis, leptospirosis, Lyme borreliosis, pasteurellosis, RMSF, salmonellosis, tularemia, yersiniosi, and Leptospirosis. Surprisingly, not only rats but dogs too cause Rabies. There is also a worm called the Heartworm (Dirofilaria immunities). It lives in the chambers and large vessels of right side of the dog’s heart. It spread to humans by mosquitoes. A dog is no longer a man’s best friend, is he? However, if you think that cats are harmless creatures, guess again. Cats cause all the diseases mentioned in the next two paragraphs.

People who kiss their cats on their mouths can get ringworms also known as Microsporum Canis in medicine or they can get Pasteurella that is found in the cat’s mouth and in their wound infections. If you have been cleaning your cat’s stool, and you are having diarrhea lately that means you have Salmonella, which causes humans to have diarrhea if they are exposed to a lot of cat stool. Moreover, if your cat hunts wild rodents and rabbits, you can get Tularemia if your cat scratches or bites you. If your cat carries antibodies or fleas and it scratches or bites you then you can get Bartonella Henselae (Rochalimae). Cats also cause Query fever and Toxoplasma.

Roundworms or intestinal roundworm eggs excreted by cats, dogs particularly puppies, and kittens are infectious to humans. If your house is dusty, has cracked floors and rugs that have not been cleaned from below, well then your house is full of excreted eggs. And these visceral larva migrants can cause children from 1-4 years of age with Pica history to be infected. The cat diseases that cannot affect Humans are Feline Giardia, Feline Immunodeficiency virus and Feline Leukemia virus.

If your pet’s vet tells you that your pet is infected, if her tells you to be very careful while disposing its urine, you had better do so, because if you come in direct or indirect contact with its contaminated urine, you will be at the risk of getting Spirochete, Skin or mucous membranes. If the vet also tells you that your cat, dog, iguana or snake has Gastroenteritis, Baxteremia or Focal infection, they can cause you to have Meningitis, Osteomyelitis or Abscesses.

The highest attack rates of these diseases are less than five years and greater than seventy years. Invasive diseased infants less than 3 months and the elderly can get Hemoglobinopathies (sickle cell disease), AIDS, immunodeficiency, Malignancy and Gastroenteritis that lasts for about six to seventy-two hours. These animals also cause Penetrate mucous membranes that incubates for 7 to 12 days, in this time it will spread to all parts of your body. Then, this will damage the endothelium of small blood vessels and localized ischemic it will damage the renal tubules, liver, meninges, muscle and the placenta. It can also cause Jaundice, which is due to hepatocellular dysfunction without necrosis can cause renal failure that causes uveitis and *Conjunctival Suffusion*

If you think those cuddly puppies cannot make you sick, well, they too have a history of infecting human beings. This is how you get sick; when you ingest eggs, they pass through your intestinal walls and enter your bloodstream, and then they migrate to the liver and after that through the lungs to the pulmonary capillaries and reach the bronchial tree, trachea and larynx. Then they cough out the larva and swallow it, this molts into the stomach and passes into the intestine, molts again and now adult worms lay eggs. After this all, we get fever, cough, wheezing, and hepatomegaly. You can also get Leukocytosis, Eosinophilia, high IgG, Toxocariasis and T. cati

You will be surprised to know that Query fever (Q fever)is not only found in meat hanging in the cold storage for a month, but is also found in dried wool or tick feces which has not been cleaned for a year. Slaughterhouse workers are infected with Q fever because they inject guinea pigs for blood and urine and these drops fall on them and they are infected. Also, farm workers who deal with cattle’s sheep and goats are at the risk of getting Q fever, especially from milk goats because they can transmit Brucella to you if you touch their abraded goat skin/conjunctiva or drink their milk or by inhaling aerosols.

Pork too causes you to get sick because tapeworm (Taneia Solium) is in pork. This is what happens; the pig eats the eggs and the eggs hatch in its duodenum, then they migrate to intestinal wall to blood/ lymphatic’s and then they migrate to skeletal muscle or myocardium. After that, humans eat the pig meat and the larvae attach to their small intestines, mature in 5- 12 weeks, and become as long as 4-9 feet.

Everybody thinks that land creatures cause diseases and sea creatures like fish and shellfish do not cause anything. Well, it is not so. They too cause many diseases like Vibriosis, Mycobacterium Marinum, Salmonellosis, Cryptosporidiosis , Erysipeloid, Yersiniosis (non-plague), Yersinia enterocolitica, fever, bloody diarrhea, Pseudo appendicitis, Reactive arthritis, and Chitterlings which are usually caused by improperly prepared/cooked food.

Animals do cause many diseases, and I could go on and on writing the diseases they cause, but the purpose of this article is not to discourage keeping pets or pet owners because pets do help the elderly in need of companionship, medical reasons or emotional value. It is hoped that this article will help them to make informed decisions about dealing with pets and setting parameters to avoid health complications for individuals leading to financial implications. These developments could easily offset the budget of pet owners who are usually elderly and often retired people.
