Weight Loss and Fat Grams
There are also a large number of weight loss groups which rely on long-term slower weight loss but which provide support in the form of “sponsors” and regular meetings – sort of like a gambler’s or alcoholics anonymous organization. These are good for the individual who needs constant encouragement in his/her weight loss program.
One of the easiest methods I have found to take off pounds at an average rate, while not starving yourself or feeling that you are in total prison at the grocery store, is to cut the fat in your diet. If you want to steadily lose 6-8 pounds a month, this is a fail-safe method. Here is how it works:
1. Start counting fat grams in the foods you eat. Your goal is to stay under 20 grams of fat a day. If you can do this, the weight will come off, no matter what else you do.
2. If you are diligent about this, you will soon be able to rattle off the number of fat grams in most every food you have been used to eating. For example, a doughnut has 13 grams of fat; regular margarine has 14 grams a tablespoon, an egg has 6 grams, etc. You will be able to count the grams and limit your total intake to under 20 a day.
3. Start buying lowfat things that you normally eat – margarine, cookies, chips, etc. It’s easy because every grocery store has low fat everything, even mayonnaise!
4. Make a list of the foods you love that don’t have fat – mine includes shrimp, lobster, pasta with red sauces, fat free cookies, sherbert, low fat ice creams, low fat or fat-free chips, even fat-free hotdogs!!! I can also eat a lot of sweets and cereals that I like, as well as popcorn and pretzels. Did you know that animal cookies are really low in fat? I love them!
If you are very careful about the fat intake on a daily basis, you will find that you can splurge at least once a month. My splurge is my favorite Chinese buffet restaurant where I go and gorge myself! It’s great fun and there’s no guilt. The other nice thing about his particular eating change is that you don’t have to increase amounts of exercise or take any expensive weight loss diet potions or pills. The weight will come off, and you will see the results within a month.
