Unemployed / Unemployable?

Ken Hughes
Many of the unemployed are actually unemployable due to lack of technical skills necessary to compete in the modern world that’ been s created for us making us more reliant of education than ever before. It’s very easy to blame the government or industries for not being able to resolve the supposed lagging economy. When things don’t go as people want they’re all to often willing to blame someone or something else rather than taking a look at the real causes for their problems. First let’s agree on one undisputable fact the economy isn’t failing, perhaps your economy is failing. Those with an education are doing very well in this economy.

When foreign competition, labor saving technology, demands by the public for discounted goods and services, forced manufactures and distributors of goods and services to look elsewhere for ways to resolve shrinking profits. Labor leaders and tax collectors were unwilling to follow suite. Rather than look for new ways of protecting their Unions members they chose to look to contractual guarantees as their answer to a shrinking manufacturing base in America. The public chose to patronize the Wal Marts purchasing imported discounted goods made by nonunion labor. If Americans don’t buy it American manufactures can’t sell it, American Unions workers can’t make it.

There’s a vast arena of coconspirators creating the failings of the unemployed and the underemployed in America. Lets look at the situation, chronologically, [admitting exceptions to the premise.] Generations of failed parenting begin the journey down the road to despair for blue color workers. Substandard education lacking the discipline to encourage a desire for students to succeed beyond mediocrity. Teaching political correctness rather than useful skills that’ll prepare them for life in the real world. America encourages the immigration of skilled technical people form other countries. Why aren’t we teaching our young people these skills?

It may be more beneficial for students to learn, rather than “Oil Bad, Soy Beans Good.” 100% of good and services move because of oil products. Over 60% of our goods and services are a result of oil byproducts. Education teaching fiction rather than facts is the most critical of all the things causing the disparity in our life styles. The only Americans lacking gainful employment are those who chose not to get a decent education. That relates back to poor parenting and under-qualified educators not being able to motivate students to learn in the primary grades.

There’s plenty of blame to be assigned to the Government. First, let me explain the difference between President Bush and the Government. There are 50 U S Senators, 435 U S Representatives, and 204 thousand Federal employees, [give or take a few thousand.] In order for the President to be held accountable for all that goes on in the government it would mean he has to keep track of nearly a quarter of a million people at any given moment. To say the least it’s a ridiculous assumption. Presidents and their Cabinets are the only people in Washington limited to eight years service the rest have nearly lifetime tenure.

Governments negotiate trade agreements with other nations. More often than not, these agreements favor the other country at the expense of American businesses and American labor. When an industry moves off shore the government nearly always makes a feeble attempt at pacifying those who lost jobs because of the agreement. There nearly always short of funding and teaching, most of these programs end up in the hands of campaign contributors to the party in power.

By law, American employers are required to adhere to certain minimum standards for workers protection. Usually those countries these jobs are relocated in have no worker protections. Low cost consumer products are produced in near slave labor conditions and our government doesn’t ask for improvements for fear of offending some Dictatorial Leader and his government. There’s promises and little consideration for the American workers displaced by these one sided trade agreements.

We have covered most but not all of the offenders for American labors demise in the manufacturing world. The biggest offender is the American public, they submit to the statuesque with little more than a low grown. It’s something they talk about but are unwilling to get involved in for fear it could cost them is some way. It’s easer to blame George Bush than to confront the real problem.

Let’s assume we wake up tomorrow morning and we’re living in a perfect world.

Congress does its job legislating reasonable laws protecting Americans and stops selling their services it to the highest bidder foreign and domestic. They would stop the hostile bickering back and forth and get back to business as defined in the constitution. American consumers look for “Made In America labels.”

We could eliminate illegal immigration by making it illegal for any American citizen to provide services, education, health and welfare benefits, driving privileges, or employment to any illegals with severe penalties perhaps of confiscation of all properties of the offenders. Illegals shouldn’t have constitutional rights and should be profiled. We should cut off trade with Mexico until they decide to cooperate with boarder security. Let Fox run Mexico and we’ll run America. Harsh perhaps’ justified you bet it is. This country needs a new direction of strength and new legislators with modern ideas to enforce our strength assuring we can compete with the rest of the world in the 21st century.
