Assemblyman Tran Hosts 2nd Annual Christmas Toy Drive for Local Military Families
(Costa Mesa – CA) On Tuesday, December 4, 2006, Assemblyman Van Tran (R-Costa Mesa) will hold his 2nd Annual Christmas Toy Drive in partnership with our local U.S. Marine Corps ‘Toys for Tots’ program to bring some holiday cheer to our families who have a parent serving in Iraq or Afghanistan. The event will be held from 5pm to 7pm.
As the holiday season approaches, we honor our courageous men and women in uniform who have sacrificed so much for our nation,” said Assemblyman Tran. “Duty called upon them to defend our freedom, and our duty as leaders will not stop at the end of the parade line. It’s up to our community to reach out and give a little extra support at Christmas to those families who have parents serving in Iraq or Afghanistan.”
There is no charge for this event, but participants who would like to make Christmas brighter for one of these families can bring an unwrapped gift (min. $10) or a quart-size zip lock bag filled with sundry care items.
In an effort to promote the Christmas toy drive and the numerous opportunities the California National Guard offers our young adults, Assemblyman Van Tran will partner with the Adjutant General of the California National Guard, Major General William Wade, this Friday, November 30th, to speak to several local media outlets.
As the Adjutant General, Major General Wade serves as Director of the State of California’s Military Department and leads the largest National Guard force in the United States, with an authorized strength of 18,000 Army and 4,900 Air National Guard members.
Toys for Tots’ and care packages will be accepted through the middle of December at Tran’s office in Costa Mesa at 1503 South Coast Drive, Suite #205. On December 4th, from 5pm to 7pm, local Marines will be present to accept your unwrapped ‘Toys for Tots’ gifts. For more information about the program, please call Ronnie Guyer at (714) 668-2100.
