Clinton Impeachment Now In Student Texts

Robert Paul Reyes
I must be an old goat, because a lot of earthshaking events that have taken place in my lifetime are now in the history books.

It seems like only a couple of years ago that the nation was consumed with Bill Clinton's impeachment, but even this recent event has found its way into the history books.

Adults have shaped their views of the Clinton presidency from countless newspaper stories and TV coverage, but elementary and high school students are getting their information about the former president from textbooks.

Less than a decade after he was impeached in a scandal of salacious sex, blatant perjury and partisan politics, Clinton is now in all the major high school history books.

The most commonly used texts give straightforward accounts of Clinton's impeachment, without mentioning his illicit relationship with Monica Lewinsky.

The Soviet Empire used to delete politicians who fell out of favor from newspaper records and history books, our democracy should not fall victim to practicing this same sort of revisionist history.

History books should not read like the National Enquirer, but they should mention the part that Clinton's relationship with Monica Lewinsky played in the impeachment process without getting into lurid details.

To not include Clinton's liaisons with Monica in the history books really sucks. My apologies, I couldn't resist.

Monica's stained blue dress is tucked away where nobody can see it, but Clinton's inappropriate behavior with his intern stained his presidency, and his stain should be recorded in the history books.
