Who owns this country?
The salvation of this countries energy future is dependent upon us braking the shackles of oil dependency. The biggest consumer of oil is vehicles, not just cars but all forms of transport. Even if we did not use the oil for this purpose it is still used for other things which we have become accustom too. Many of these can be substituted with other products, and their benefits will not be lost when the oil is gone. For those that as yet have no replacement using less oil would provide more oil for these further in to the future, until replacements can be found. We will eventually find that some things will be lost and we will have to adjust our life styles accordingly.
Building and using Electric Vehicles that require no fossil fuels would save the millions of barrels of oil used daily, and leave these reserves for the continuance of other products. The millions of vehicles that travel the highways and air ways of not only this country but the world, are directly responsible for the majority of the pollution that is adding to global warming.
These electric vehicles can be produced now, so why are they not in production?
For the answer we must go back to those who own the stocks and control everything that is produced. A good man may start a company and as it grows he incorporates, and sells stock. When he no longer holds at least 51 % of the stock in his company it is no longer his. A board of directors takes over and adheres to the stock holders demands. Most of which care nothing about anything but their profit, after all that is why they invested in the stock. Now there is nothing wrong with wanting security for the future, and a lot of these people are low income and middle class who hold only a few stocks each. The problem is that only a few of the upper class people control the majority of the wealth, and some are not satisfied with what they have. That old demon GREED takes over and rules their lifes, and they must have that one buck more.
Now I do not claim to know just who owns which companies, but people who have invested heavily in oil, or companies who depend on oil, and have enjoyed a wealthy life style do not want anything upsetting their apple cart. As change occurs they must find new investments to stay on top, and keep that control. One day there will be no more OIL, and no more income from it. So they must by this time have converted their holdings over into some other lucrative enterprise. They see the the wave of change going to other forms of energy, and the transportation industry which uses the most fuel would be the biggest lose of income from oil.
How do they counter that loss?
By investing in an alternate fuel that will still require production, storage, transportation, and supply stations to the vehicles, such as Hydrogen, or ethanol. If they control this production and supply you will still have to pay for the fuel and their profits are guaranteed. The EV poses a threat to their status quo, if the public were to realize its full potential. So they must kill the EV at all cost.
How do they do this?
How about this scenario, gain controlling interest in the auto companies and other companies depending on Oil through the stock market. Where they can dictate what they will build, and control their advertising. Demote the EV in commercials for programs they sponsor on the media. Buy the patents for batteries that have been proven to work best, and refuse to license their use in EV products. Buy other battery companies that make a good product and make changes that reduce it's output. Promote hybrids that still require, gas, or alternatives.
What about the alternative fuels?
Hydrogen can be used directly in an ICE car or through fuel cells in an electric car. They do not point out that making the hydrogen is not necessarily a clean process and takes electrical power to produce it. Or that it must be stored under high pressure and leakage occurs the longer it is stored. It is highly explosive and dangerous to handle. When a ICE car is in a crash there is danger of explosion and fire from the gasoline it carries, and there would still be that danger using Hydrogen.
Ethanol is being made from some food products such as, corn and sugarcane. The more their used in this manner will drive food prices up, and there is not enough land to product what will be needed to replace the oil.
Then they use the lie that EV's would still pollute the air, because they charge from the grid that produces it power from fossil fuels. When the truth is the shear mass numbers of ice vehicles spewing out fumes daily is no comparison to that produced by the power plants that use coal or oil, and our power comes from a variety of other sources, wind, water, solar, and nuclear, plus there is also geo-thermal energy that could be used.
So what about the EV's that did manage to be built?
GM, Ford, and Toyota all have built EV's that worked and gave you the same performance as any ICE car. The only draw back was the range you could drive before recharging. Whether it was a draw back or not depends on your individual needs. A range of 30 to 40 miles is enough for most of your driving. The only time you need more is for the occasional long trip, and then a portable generator pack would do the trick, with better miles per gallon. You would buy no gas at all for your daily driving.
The best batteries seemed to be the NiMH which can not be used because of an oil company. GM for some reason saw fit to sell the patent rights for these batteries to them.
GM never sold any of their EV1's, but instead recalled them from lease and precede to crush them at the protest of their customers who wanted to buy them. Now they are suppose to come out with a PHEV called the Volt by the year 2010, most talk on the net is that they are stalling in hopes that gas prices will go down. Can we trust them not to do the same with the volt as they did with the EV1.
I don't know what happened with Ford, I know when I worked at Disney they were at the time using Ford products, and later changed over to GM. How many Ford EV vehicles they had at the time I don't know. I only know of the Ford EV pickup truck that my section had, and I drove many times. All you did was turn on the key and step on the accelerator, except for being quiet it drove like any other truck.
Toyota produced a number of Rave4 EV's which are still being driven to this day by happy owners. They also stopped making them as they were sued by the oil company to keep them from using the NiMH batteries.
To day the only EV's being produced are small one or two passenger, low speed, short range ones. Except for the high performance, high price Tulsa roadster which has customers waiting delivery. There are also electric bicycle's, scooters, and motorcycles being made and sold.
