A NEW YEAR ... A NEW BEGINNING ... YES, YOU CAN!

Domingo Ivan Casaņas
As we prepare to welcome the New Year. It is important to reflect on ourselves and set new goals that will empower us to better year. As you read this article I will be on a cruise ship with my three children in the Caribbean. I will also take time to visit my Cuban family in Miami and Ft. Lauderdale. Yes! I will be eating Lechon Asado (Roast Pork) Arroz (rice) Frijoles negros (black beans) and having a great time with the family and with my children.

What I am about to write is meant for everyone no matter your ethnic background. The fact of the matter is that we as living human beings must live our life to the fullest by following the samples that I am about to set so that your New Year can be the best ever.

For one, we must be productive. You cannot be happy if you don?t produce. We should only rest to gather strength to get back to productivity. There are four seasons in a year that give you the opportunity to see what you can do with each of them. We also need at least a handful of friends, friends that know all about you and yet still like you. The other types of friends are just acquaintances on a casual basis.

Next you must keep your culture alive. Which means your language, your music, any ceremonies, traditions as well as any special customs. The uniqueness of all of us that when blended together brings vigor, energy, power, and influence.

We also need spirituality. Walk your talk. Read, and study and practice what you teach.

Get involved in helping others. Pray and seek God?s wisdom. For males, don?t be so macho about it that you abandon your role as a husband and as a father when it comes to your faith. Bring your children to church.

Be part of your children?s life. Don?t miss those special moments like games, birthdays, and those special performances. Our children need us. Buy tickets to everything you can. Go to the movies, opera, rodeo, boxing match, football game etc. Go see everything and experience all you possibly can.

Inspire your family and they?ll inspire you. Invest in them and they will invest in you. By living a vital life. You will live well, your will earn well. When you live well you will have the charisma, your voice will carry success and it will infuse not only your personal life but also your business life.

Success is the pursuit of a pre-determined and worthwhile goal. It is taking the time to discipline yourselves and making it a routine, which will form into a habit. Failure is simply a few errors in judgment, repeated every day. By looking in the mirror, only you can change your life. Have the will to shoot for the moon and even if you miss, you should at least hit a star.

I truly believe in people, I know that nothing happens by itself. Having success requires one to accept responsibility. ?Your thoughts, your spiritual life, and your actions will lead you to the success you seek, nobody can do it for you. With God?s help it will happen. So as the New Year awaits us let?s stop making excuses, let?s start accepting responsibility for our actions so that 2006 can become your greatest year yet. Happy New Year!
