Thanksgiving Day Message.
I want us also to be thankful that we are from a country called Eritrea and the product of the Eritrean people. My friends – that fact is a blessing by itself. A country that works wonders as the going gets tough and whose people may be characterized as extremely kind to their fellow human being, most hospitable to strangers and even some of the most magnanimous people to their enemies
These same people who have endured some untold suffering because of many man made and natural calamities deserve better than to be threatened with yet another senseless war courtesy of the envious wey ane gangs. Notwithstanding our Eritrean Defense Forces customary assured victory over the aggressors, one prays that we may not arrive at that eventuality and be forced to lose more precious lives unnecessarily. It may be hope against hope, but I hope the Mekele boys would think twice before they make any unscrupulous adventure against the peace loving, peace yearning and peace deserving Eritrean people.
While one may be tempted to state erroneously that it is the Tigrai people’s responsibility to deal with the wey ane’s never ending inferiority complex, nevertheless, I suggest we Eritreans remember the people of Tigrai in our prayers for I am convinced that the majority of them have nothing to do with this war that appears to be pushed by some minority Tigreans and their external handlers who do not have a stake in a peaceful and tranquil Horn region and do not appreciate the longstanding and natural good neighborly and peaceful co-existence between our two peoples and beyond.
Let the people of the Horn receive something DIFFERENT for a change –Peace and Tranquility and mutual co-existence – not mutual destruction.
Berhane Alazar
