What Would Benjamin Franklin Do? He'd Rebel!
He just told the world that in order to protect our civil rights, the very legislation that is being used to strip us of our rights – The Patriot Act – is the only thing keeping us from being attacked by Osama bin Laden. He’s said this at least seven times in the last ten minutes of his speech. For example, the President said, “It’s my responsibility to protect America’s civil liberties, and I can order eavesdropping on your phone calls in order to do that.”
The President of the United States also said that establishing a Constitution in Iraq is a top priority, while he takes action at home indicating that our own Constitution isn’t worth the paper it is written on.
What does he need The Patriot Act for, when he has authorized spying on America outside the scope of even that Constitutional massacre? He says that’s part of his job. He maintains time-after-time that he’s violating our rights to protect us from the enemy, who apparently no longer has a name.
Pardon me, but I don’t want you to protect me! You are a lying, incompetent fool who has no credibility.
Regardless of how many times he recites the same lies, only slightly rearranging the words, I don’t believe him any more now, than I did when he donned a flight suit and declared “mission accomplished.” He chastised the members of our nation’s legislative body for objecting to extensions to the terms of The Patriot Act, using as his justification that they didn’t object the first time it was rushed through the Senate. At least some of our lawmakers are capable of learning something from this, because Bush is not!
A man that I’ll give much more credit than I ever will George W. Bush said something over 230 years ago that has never been truer in my mind than now:
They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety,”
- Benjamin Franklin.
When our forefathers fought to establish the laws of this land, they also planned for the future with vision and forethought. I’ve studied the Constitution, Bill of Rights, Declaration of Independence and many other documents written during the infancy of this nation. There are countless references to the justification and purpose for the words of these men who were deemed to be traitors and rebels, long before they were heroes. They knew that they would be drawn and quartered if they were caught, but they laid a damn good foundation for a democracy nonetheless. That was patriotism.
Now, one arrogant, spoiled, rich, liar from Texas, by his own stubborn ignorance is throwing all of that devotion and commitment away.
If you’re reading this and are for some strange reason unable to look honestly at this entire situation; if you still support George W. Bush and his associates, then I submit you are as ignorant as he.
Come on America! It’s time to insist on putting an end to this madness. I sure hope that the majority of us have just a sliver of the brains and courage exhibited by the signers of the Constitution. This man named President needs evicted from the White House before it is just too late. Find a way to get involved, because together we can make it happen.
