Discovering One More Thing About Yourself By Daring To Try

Judy Ramsook
Sometimes on the road of life some persons in our midst become accustomed to doing the bare minimum to carve out their little place in life.

And if they are comfortable and happy with that, then it’s fine. But sometimes, it’s when some of us go beyond what we do, is what makes us become aware of another part of ourselves.

Say for example, someone has never had to wash his own vehicle or cook a meal for himself, but one day decides to do one of those two things because maybe it was the hired help’s day off and he wanted to see if he could prepare a meal for himself. Even if that meal happened to be just a sandwich.

So he does and much to that person’s surprise, realises that he has just done one thing for himself without having to pick up the telephone to order out for something, and the better part of that is, he learned something new about himself that he did not know prior to making that sandwich. He learned he could do something he thought he could not, and he did not need anyone’s assistance.

Now do not get the wrong picture here, we all need each other. For the world around us would not be able to run as efficiently if we all did not do our part, but there is nothing wrong in trying to do something, (within reason of course) especially if some one has the knowledge and available tools or equipment available in order to achieve his objective.

Just like the toddler who is unaware that he can walk until he attempts that first step, so are some of us, trying to do that one thing that we thought we were incapable of doing. And it’s that part of the human spirit that keeps this world progressing along the path of industrialization for a better and cleaner world.

Attempting what has not been tried before. That’s one of the ways of knowing what we are capable of.

And whether we succeed or not, in whatever it is we are trying to accomplish, at least we would have learned one more thing about ourselves that we did not know before; that we can sometimes achieve what we are determined to achieve if we persevere from start to finish, no matter how challenging that task might be.

And while you are at it, give yourself a congratulatory smile for all that you have managed to accomplish this year, whether you needed help or not.

And Merry Christmas!
