How to Learn Spanish Quickly

There are many valid reasons to learn Spanish . First, it is probably only English and Mandarin that are spoken more than Spanish. English is the only language spoken more diversely than Spanish. In countries like the United States, it makes even more sense to learn Spanish as the largest proportion of immigrants that arrive in the US are Spanish speaking. Learning Spanish not only opens up business and career opportunities but also gives more opportunities to make friends. So there is a good incentive to learn Spanish or, at the least, grasp some of the basics.

The fact that there is an increased chance of coming in contact with Spanish speaking people only makes your chances of learning Spanish immeasurably improved. One of the main reasons that people struggle to learn a new language is that they don't learn and use the skills they have acquired regularly enough. A common scenario is learning at school. This may be seen as a chore and largely forgotten as soon as the student leaves the classroom. Another scenario is night classes or self study courses. These are fine but they are often shoe horned into your already busy life. So you may spend a few hours a week learning Spanish. You then get on with your regular English speaking life. This is a recipe for failure or a long term way to learning Spanish.

With the increase in Spanish speaking people in your communities this opens up opportunities to use your skills. This could simply be speaking to a Spanish speaking person that you meet in the street. Try greeting them in Spanish and see how they respond. You can then express some of the common pleasantries. This could build to more complex conversations and even a friendship. You could even volunteer to help Spanish speaking immigrants.


The chances are that there will be more Spanish or Latin cultural events going on too. You should go to things like this and take part in activities. Understanding cultural aspects can help to improve your knowledge of the language and reinforce your learning. There are many other things that you can do to immerse yourself in the Spanish language and many are now at your fingertips.

The immersion method is the much quoted best way to learn a new language. It is the way to learn Spanish quickly but is often not very practical to the average person. The best immersion method is to live in a country where the language you are learning is spoken. This means you can't rely on English. You need to think in Spanish. You need to speak Spanish to survive. In this situation you will soon discover a humans innate ability to learn language. Sure it may be tough going at first but it will work and you will be conversant in Spanish quickly.

However people can't go and live in Mexico for a year. They need to work to pay the bills or their children need to go to school. So the alternative is to bring Mexico to you. You can have the best of both worlds because of the multicultural element that exists in The US. Immerse yourself in the many Spanish people and activities going on in your communities right now. This will bring on your Spanish language skills quickly.

Another method that gives you more freedom to learn is to use a self study course. A popular course at the moment is Rocket Spanish. It can help you to learn Spanish but ultimately you have to get out into the community and practice the skills you have learned. Only by talking to people will the knowledge stick in your head.
