Christmas

Alex Zakson
December 25th is Christmas. It is the day Jesus was born. One would have to live in a cave in the middle of Outer Mongolia not to know that.

Whether you are Christian, Jewish, Moslem, Buddhist, agnostic, atheist, or anything else, regardless of whether you are deeply religious or non-observant, when you wish someone Merry Christmas, Season’s Greetings or Happy Holidays, you are acknowledging Christmas, and wishing them a Merry Christmas. So let’s drop the pretense, and call Christmas Christmas, after all that’s what it is.

Some Christians may feel that if one uses the term Christmas, he/she automatically becomes a Christian. Some non-Christians fear that by acknowledging Christmas they betray their own faith. But nothing could be further from the truth. There is more to being a Christian than saying Merry Christmas, and more to being non-Christians than saying Happy Holidays.

Beliefs and convictions have much deeper roots.

So fellow Americans of all persuasions: Merry Christmas!
