David Hewlett, The Next Dr. Who?

Saqqara Aleister
In between his move from Los Angeles to Vancouver and his heavy shooting schedule David Hewlett took some time to answer a few questions about himself and a few fan questions. Following is David's Q&A with Saqqara.

Section One....The Speed Round:

1. Blonde, Brunette or Redhead?

Historically, Brunette. Ideally, Redhead. Practically...Blonde.

A Sense of humor...there's always hair-dye

2. Boxers, Briefs or Commando?

Boxer-briefs... never tried to fit a commando down there?! ;-)

3. Ice Cream, Chips or Pretels?

Ice Cream!

4. Silk or Cotton?

Cotton...silk's too sexy, I'd never get anything done.

5. Vancouver or Los Angeles?

Los Angeles when in Vancouver. Vancouver when in Los Angeles

6. Sunrise or Sunset?

The sun rises as well?!

7. Coffee, Tea or....

Tea to start, coffee every fifteen minutes thereafter.

Section Two....The Favorites:

1. Favorite Super Hero?

Swamp thing on the bad days, Doctor Strange for the rest

2. Favorite Food?

Any food...I love food...what you got?

3. Favorite Song?

Impossible to tell. I'm terribly fickle when it comes to music.

4. Favorite Color?

Blue

5. Favorite Current TV Show {and you can't say Atlantis or SG-1}

Little Britain (BBC)

6. Favorite Crayon Color?

Silver

7. Favorite Atlantis Episode, to date?

Whichever one I'm working on.

8. Favorite Sound?

Rain, or the sound of a 56K modem connecting

9. Least Favorite Sound?

Vacuum cleaner

10. Favorite Word?

thesaurus

11. Least Favorite Word?

awesome

Section Three:

1. What drew you into acting over computer geek?

The movie/tv set. I just loved being on set.

2. Your first Stargate convention, what was your reaction to the overwhelming fan base/support?

Flattered beyond belief!

3. Do you have a girlfriend?

Jane, she's lovely.

4. If not, what attracts you to ask someone out?

If they're Intelligent, independent and a geek...though cute definitely helps.

5. What would be your prefect date, {and you can't say Cherry 2000}?

Jane, dinner and a movie or three.

6. Any cool new projects with Vincent Natali in the works and can you tell?

Vincenzo is always up to something. He's got a short that we are trying to schedule right now.

7. In the movies you have done, which one was the most difficult and why?

The difficulty in making movies is like pain...you forget it quickly.

"Nothing" was probably one of the toughest. There were days and days of wirework, extremely complex shots, very little time and money to shoot, and for all intents and purposes, a two character script.

8. What has been the most difficult scene you have had to do in Atlantis and which episode?

It would have to be one of the space walking sequences in Seige part one... all done while I had the most horrendous flu!

9. How do you deal with fans who recognize you and don't like McKay?

I try not to make any sudden moves?

All of the people that I've met that don't like McKay seem to really like not liking McKay so they tend to be very nice to me, just not terribly nice about McKay.

10. Do you prefer the story driven scripts or the techno babble/special effect laden scripts?

I think I'd go nuts if I was only doing one or the other. What I love is that there's always such a great mix of the two.

11. When you first walked onto the Stargate set, what were your first thoughts?

"Brad Wright is an evil genius"...he was the one who showed me around. I felt like James Bond, being escorted around a the megalomaniacal villain's secret hideout.

12. Do you have an all time favorite project, which one?

I know it sounds cheesy, but I'm working on it...Atlantis.

13. Where do you want to be in 5 years professionally?

Employed.

14. Where do you want to be in 5 years personally?

Kids...in a distant boarding school ;-)

15. Do you think we are alone in the universe?

I hope we're not!

16. What job would you be doing if not acting?

I would like to have been a computer programmer or a writer (the problem is al that writing you need to do!)

17. You are writing your autobiography, What is the title?

"Where did all the hair go?"

18. How has being recognized on the street changed your life?

It reminds me to shower every day or so...just in case.

19. What do you consider your best attribute?

I laugh easily.

20. What, if anything, have you had to give up since becoming such a fan fave on Atlantis?

Right now I'm missing my friends back in Los Angeles...but I can afford to visit them and my family a lot more now...if only I had the time!

21. It's 2am and you can't sleep, what would you be doing?

Lying awake in bed.

22. What is one thing fans would be surprised to know about you, that they don't already know?

Why...what do they know?!

23. You get to go to Atlantis and can only take 3 items, what would they be?

Three ZPM's

24. Is the rumor that Darkyl is on hold while you pursue acting true?

Unfortunately, Darkyl is no more. There was just not enough time to pursue that side of things since the move to L.A.

25. Hollywood is a rough place, What keeps you grounded?

The mirror.

26. What are your thoughts on the rather large group of female fans known as "The Hewlett Harem"?

Flattering, catchy and worrying...am I supposed to have actually slept with them all?!

27. What inspires you?

Fear and jealousy

28. If heaven exists, what would you want god to say to you at the pearly gates?

"You wanna take over for a bit?"

Section Four.....Fan Submitted Questions:

1. What is in your CD player right now?

It's got the Ipod plugged into it...hate albums, there's always at least one bad song on there somewhere. I love life with a soundtrack!

2. There are a lot of naked pictures of you around, Do you think there might be a "behind" shot for you on Atlantis in the future?

Two words...body double.

3. What was the worst job you've ever had?

unemployment

4. Joe Flanigan has said he is writing a script in S2, Do you have any plans to write or direct for Atlantis?

Would love to eventually. It's not as easy as it may seem...lots of typing and having to know things and have answers and crazy complex stuff like that ;-)

5. What would your dream role be {besides McKay}?

Doctor Who.

6. Do you ever surf the web and visit any Atlantis boards/sites to see what the fans think of the show?

Definitely. But I've always just lurk...I never post, never have, been online for 12 years now!

7. Do any of you in the cast Ad-Lib lines that they keep in the show?

The odd thing gets through. For example "you want to go!" yelled by McKay at a six year old in "Childhood's End"...even the writers aren't that mean!

8. How many power bars do you think you have eaten for the sake of the show?

It wasn't the power bars as much as that meatball sandwiches...that, in hind sight was a really bad call. Shot right after lunch as well!

9. If you could have any super power, what would you pick?

Super intelligence... or invisibility...though, if i were super intelligent I could figure out invisibility...so Super Intelligence it is...unless it means I'd have to have one of those really big heads like they often do in the comic books...that said I'd figure out invisibility so nobody would be able to see me anyways...so Super intelligence is my final answer.
